whose your ISP, or what type of connection do you have?

is it slow on the other 2 computers as well?

how are you testing your connection speed?

what type of router and modem are you using?

are you also using a switch?

I have found that an OS that is not properly maintained can effect your download speeds. For example, I changed from a 975 chipset to a x38 and only did a repair for XP. Although it worked I was getting crappy download speeds until I tried SP3. Thats when my download speeds started to max out. However, I did a complete partition, format and reinstall of XP and now I am maxing out my download without SP3.

What was a dead give away was that other computers were not having this problem.

We need more info HS.

When you get slow downloads, is it always from the same site?
What is your throughput to the other computers on your network when you try to transfer a big file.
What devices are on your network?

If you live in an odd sort of place it could be the phone lines/exchange.

I live in a small city and my connection is slow due to the phone lines/exchange haven't been upgraded to handle more than 1.5 mbps... despite the fact I'm paying for a 8mbps speed.
