Was thinking of getting a widescreen LCD or DLP monitor, if I do it wil be for the Gateway Gammer(so I get the 19" LCD). I need to know what games will support Widescreen and not look stretched out or squashed! Also whats the best size widscreen monitor?

Most games support widescreen

Yeah, games should support widescreen. Even if they don't natively, just remember that most of the time 1280x768 is considered a legit resolution by games and monitors :). It's technically 720p, it had BETTER be supported.

In response to your other question, the "best size" depends really. For your hardware, I'd suggest seeing how high you can make the resolution go, the higher the resolution the prettier everything is in games. Of course, high-def is also high-lag sometimes...and for an old Gateway your best bet is probably 1280x768 or 1440x900, some basic widescreen resolutions.

Even if the game doesn't support wide screen there is definitely a hack for it ...all my games run wide screen some are hacked(simple download)

Ok, thanx, but gateway isn't that old is it, (see system specs), X1900XTX should do better than that, maybe? BTW are all widescreens HI-DEF?

Oh whoops, I thought Gateway and system in system specs were different :o. High-def is just a manner of speaking, worry about the resolutions. I think you'll be fine right until you get around 1920x1440. Newegg should have some nice deals for you in terms of widescreen monitors. Remember, technically, all PC monitors are "high-def", just figure out which level of high-def is right for you.

i have a 19'' widescreen and i love it. i play counterstrike: source at 1440x900 and it plays fine on my x850pro. I also play hl2 on widescreen fine. Need for speed carbon doesnt have a widescreen option but at 1024x768 it looks normal.

You speak Bender Babble?!!

And most games that don't support a specific resolution can be forced to comply with your wishes.

Almost all new games support Widescreen. On PCs u have a 16:10 aspect ratio in all monitors so that ammounts to 768p instead of the 16:9, 720p found on TVs. This means that playing an Xbox 360 or a PS3 would mean that the picture wouldnt take up the entire screen.

Currently 22" is the best deal, with 24" costing nearly twice as much if not more. 30" costs about twice as much as 24" once again.
You can find a great 22" for around 350$ wich is a great deal.
The only downside is the lack of 1080p resolution support, found on the 24" or up.

800 x 600 best for counter-strike 1.6 :)

any other games that resolution isn't important is 1280 x 1024 (widescreen = bad imo)

why 800x600?

I have a Dell 2005FPW and I LOVE IT. Counter Strike Source and other games I play like company of heros and quke 4 look awesome at 1680x1050. I have a 7800 GT that is overclocked a good amount and I can play at native resolution on high setting for most every game I have tried. After wide screen I would never go back to normal aspect ratio.
