Will RTX 3080 be worth it with PCI-E 3.0?

You pretty much sumed up the best answer of everyone here in this thread, my thing is this, I believe N-Vidia is going for the crown this time around their technology is surreal, I am a mid-ranged PC owner with a 1660ti and can't believe the details I see 90% of the time! I will soon get a 3070 in October also I own a hexacore i5 9400f and will be upgrading to a octocore i9-9900K along with 32Gb of Ram from 16. Making these decisions is a choice if we want to have the very best or suffer from sub-par.

The biggest caveat is DirectStorage/RTX IO & how it affects future games using high end SSDs, so I wouldn't be counting on Intel's unhatched chickens just yet

I really dont see a huge difference between gens there, if you have NVME + directIO, you're gunna see nice load times in supported titles. It's gunna be a long time before that matters, and we saturate 3.0.

Your point about this not making a difference in the short to medium term is true, though you could flip the argument & say that if you're looking for a gaming system in the future going with AMD & a high end GPU (for 4k) is not a bad choice anymore. There's practically no difference between Intel, AMD & you also get some amount of future proofing with PCIe 4.0 ~ which could help a lot in the future, depending on the titles you play.

If at any point directIO matters hugely for game performance, anyone without a brand spanking new card is fucked.

Game devs will not design their games to alienate users.

PCI-E 3 will be about the same for game play...nobody know how it will have as an effect on RTX io though...time will tell...that's why it's good to wait before upgrading...

I have read it and nobody yet tested RTX io especially with 3090...it's still unknown (beside what Nvidia Claims)

Knowing aboslutely nothing about your setup, who knows. Please fill in your system specs so we know EXACTLY what you are working with when asking questions like this.

8GB is plenty for 1080p and an overwhelming majority of 1440p titles. 8GB will be fine for the next couple/few years at that resolution and Ultra settings.

If this goes deeper than that, I'd start my own thread too.
