So around a month ago I installed windows on my new 120GB SSD. Everything was smooth and worked. Yesterday I installed the April 2018 update, and all of a sudden audio stops working. I uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek drivers, made sure it was enabled in the task manager, unplugged a bluetooth adapter for my computer (hadnt set it up but thought it could interfere with audio) and plug and unplugged my computer as well as multiple reboots. I used the troubleshooter and it said everything was fine. The problem is with the headphone jack on my computer, it was working just fine before the update. The speakers work when i turn them on, but again, the headphone jack wont give audio. So first of all, why am I getting this update 4 months late? Second, how do I fix this?

Also sorry for cringy photo it was with my Iphone.

So for clarity you have sound over HDMI but not from the socket for the head phones? Also please list your hardware.thnx and welcome to TPU!
PS my first guess from the pic is the socket is loaded with dust, but i don't know yet...

hey, i have AMD ATHLON quad core cpu with a GTX 1050 graphic card, 16GB DDR3 kingstone memory and 120GB SSD, 500GB hard drive and another 120GB hard drive. and a 550w psu and asus motherboard

Realtek allows you to assign outputs as you please the update has probably reset it. The fact your speakers work brings me to that conclusion. I know the April update reset things on my Soundblaster as well.

Which board is that again?

I'm not exactly sure, all i know is that he motherboard is by ASUS and it has 2 DDR3 memory slots. also cleaned out the port with my compressed air can and to no avail.

@INSTG8R how would i set it? this is what it says in properties:

looks to me that the software does not see your 3.5 plug

that was in the realtek audio properties, not speaker

Accidentally solved it!

The device properities in the control panel>hardware and sound>sound, the speakers were disabled, and so the port where my headphone jack goes was disabled. all i had to do was enable it again and now it works.

Thanks all!
