Windows 11 General Discussion

More update microsoft crap-show nonsense...

Is anyone surprised?
No, not really. What’s sad is how slow functional boot times have become on Windows. I’ll start my work laptop, sign-in, then go get a coffee. If I’m lucky, Teams has started up by the time I get back. Contrast that with my M1 mini, and I can cold boot it and have all my active windows from my previous session (including, mail, browser, and photo editors) open in maybe a minute. The mini consumes 25W at most, so it’s not a power issue. I’m confident that my work laptop has more thermal headroom. It’s just all that overhead in Windows consuming so much time. It’s hardly a fast boot if you have to wait 2-3 minutes after desktop to actually have a quality experience.

Yes July 2025 update destroyed the functionality of Windows 11.

I'm waiting a new nvme drive to do a clean installation and to copy some files, saved data, stored settings of my applications.

The July, 2025 security updates are in fact the culprit.
This is also why I delay doing updates for a few months.

On behalf of those at microsoft who want to do due diligence and test update before release, please accept a big apology.

This update, has the propensity of causing corruption on a widespread amount of PCs. There are multiple posts on Eleven Forum.

Anybody know if the july update issues affect 23h2? Or just 24h2? I wont update in the meantime... don't want to risk it.

Also I wonder if the reason I never got the 24h2 update option is due to something I noticed in the group policy editor that I might have put there to be doubly sure I didn't get automatic updates, but not positive about that.... I have 'target release version for feature updates' set to 21h1. Maybe? Oh well thats a problem for December me.

The odds of the "unrepairable component store" bug is lower with 23H2.

Update:
I can't say that you're all out of the woods! Usually on 23H2, the component store repair will be successful with dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
The odds of needing to repair the component store are however extreme with this update!
If CBS fails with a nonsense error with the restorehealth option, then it's time to reinstall Windows, just like it's 7!

Did CBS break epically on 23H2 as well? Only someone else knows.

....Sounds like I'm just going to opt-out for now.
