Hello,

I've been trying to install Windows 7 x64 On my Laptop, I've already have Windows 7 x32 on It. But the setup won't let me install on the disk and says it can't be installed on a dynamic volume.

What does that means? And what is the best solution for it?

I need a solution which won't let my data wipe.. :)))

I'd never heard of dynamic volumes but apparently they are not supported on laptops - so it's odd that your lappy has one. Here is an article that might help - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc757696(WS.10).aspx

From a quick scan it looks like you will need to convert the dynamic volume to a standard one. Then you should be able to use disk management or a partition manager to shrink the existing partition, create a new partition in the unallocated space and then install x64 to the new partition.

Why not just format the drive and install only the x64 version?

EDIT: scrap that idea... I just seen the last of the opening post :banghead:

Unless the OP has his data on a partitioned part of the drive? then what I said was totally useless.

Here it is what I did, moved my data to my PC, deleted every other partition except for the OS drive. then Used a software to convert it to Basic disk, (Basic disk can have upto 4 volumes so I had to delete other volumes)

Problem solved, but took about 6hours and a restless night :(

Anyways, thanks guys :toast:
