Hey all,

I am currently running Windows 7 build 7100 (the beta from ~juneish) as my main os. Im buying a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit to upgrade to the real thing before the time bomb 'splodes. How does the upgrade path go? Do I just put the new key in? Or do I need a full reformat?

Thanks guys. :toast:

I suggest that you reformat.

You can just do a clean install over your existing install. All your old stuff will be moved to Windows.old. It's pretty much as good as 'real' clean install except you don't have to backup or any of that stuff. One of my favorite things MS has added to the Windows install process.

I used this method and it went fine for about a week

then I got a trojoan...... so I formatted and reinstalled LOL

I thought I read somewhere that Ultimate retail is the only version you can update cleanly from the RC since it was Ultimate as well. Not sure though. A reformat will be quick anyway, but if you have a lot of installed programs you do not feel like reinstalling its worth a go.

Beta is build 7100 or less, Final is Build 7600, Id recommend 7600 since it is polished and 7100 is not as of media functions (cut off MP3s so short etc)
