i have run into an issue i am guessing has been around for quite some time but have finally discovered. for some reason firefox cannot load java applets in windows 7. i can load java applets in windows 7 using chrome and IE and in linux using chrome and firefox.

my java jre is up to date and so is firefox. i read here that java was not copying the proper dll files into the firefox plugins directory. so i followed the instructions but still the problem persists.

remember, this is for java applets, not java applications. for instance, this should load up a java applet game.

any help is appreciated.

Sorry, I don't use Firefox; but...

If you are using a 64 bit OS, be sure to load the 32 and 64 bit java JREs.
Next, take a look at this post: Windows 7 - Help: Windows 7 + Java + Firefox = No Applets
Java Tester website
Quote from MozillazineKB : "Starting in Firefox 3.6, the new "Next-Generation Java Plug-In" (included in JRE 6 Update 10 and above) is needed for Java to work"

:)

EDIT: Quote from Java's website:

"Next-Generation Java Plug-In
Java 6u10 includes a brand-new implementation of the Java Plug-in, which is used by default as long as you are using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer. The next-generation plug-in runs applets outside of the browser in one or more separate processes. Applets still appear inside of the web browser window as they always have, but this means that it is now possible to use different Java versions, command-line arguments, and configurations to run different applets. The isolation provided by running the web browser and the Java -- two very large, very complex pieces of software -- in separate process spaces improves the reliability of both, and gives applets the same flexibility and control over configurations that other Java software has always enjoyed.
For more information on switching between Old Classic plug-in and Next generation plug-in, please visit Switch between old and new plug-in"

i am already running the next gen java plugin. still no luck.

have u tried to disable UAC and Run as Administrator in Win7 x64?

i all my friends that uses x64 don't have problems with FF and java.

Have you checked that no other Firefox add-on is blocking it - like No Script etc or your Anti-virus

EDIT:Here is a SS of my plug-ins and the .dll's in the Firefox plug-in folder.Using Windows 7 x64

Updating can still leave older versions in the plug-ins, try disabling them and just leave the Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.200.2

Me neither, java just installed and worked flawlessly.

However I do run 7 in super admin mode....

thanks guys, i got it to work. i had to uninstall java and firefox and completely remove both directories. reboot. then install the 32bit version of java followed by the 64bit version. finally, i had to install firefox and everything works fine.
