Windows Instantly Disables HDR

All of a sudden I can't enable HDR in Windows. The second I click "Use HDR", the button just goes from being on to instantly off. Seems to be a Windows-side issue as on the monitor everything is set up correctly to allow for HDR. Even before if HDR was turned off on the monitor it still allowed me to at least turn it on in Windows, even if made the screen not look quite right. I have tried different video cables as well but still nothing. I have done nothing to the PC that should've caused this changed or made any Windows changes when it started to occur out of nowhere. So what could be causing this?
 
Think, what's changed between then and now, no matter how small. Driver update? Windows patches? Anything. Something has changed for sure. Are you using the right input on the monitor?

Nothing apart from regular updates, though that's almost half a year worth of Windows and graphics card driver updates.
 
It's quite possible that something there has inadvertently broken it. Let's see what suggestions others have to say about this.

Checked and I don't have any restore points that old.
 
Search for cmd.exe and run it as administrator. Type inside the window:

dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Press enter and wait till its done. Then type:

sfc /scannow

After its complete, restart your system.

Uninstall Nvidia drivers, reboot and perform a cleanup with DDU from safe mode, and then install the latest drivers.

Make sure Windows 10 is updated and your cables and monitor support HDR in the selected resolution and refresh rate.

If it doesn't help, try to change output color format in Nvidia control panel, try 4:2:0 10-bit.

Already done all the basic troubleshooting like that. Also sadly can't seem to change my output format to that in the Nvidia Control Panel.

If you using DisplayPort, try switching to HDMI 2.

Also perform a factory rest from the monitor's OSD.

HDMI won't work as my graphics card doesn't support HDMI 2.1. Also yeah that's the tab I was looking for, but my only option for format is YCbCr422.
 
There is a firmware update for your monitor:


Your card supports HDMI 2.0b, which is sufficient for HDR and 4K. Give it a try just to see what happens.

Already am on the latest firmware. Also yeah HDR does work over HDMI, but that way I'm not getting 144hz refresh rate.
 
Well how were you getting 144Hz before this? The product page says it does support 144Hz with DSC, though you'll have to go DP for that since you're limited by HDMI on the GPU side.

I can get 4k 144hz over DP, which is what I've been using. I can't get it over HDMI though, but at least when using HDMI HDR works.
 
You can try a couple of things, short of reinstalling or resetting the OS, try the studio drivers first ~

In my experience they're the most stable drivers probably among all GPU vendors, then you could try insider drivers ~

Needless to say they're pretty much beta drivers, but still fairly stable. Use DDU before installing any of them. If this doesn't work then there's some other software interfering with your OS' (default) HDR settings.

Sadly those haven't worked either.
