Microsoft has just released a new build of Windows Vista for technical beta testers. Windows Vista Build 5456 offers many security, functionality, and performance advantages over the previous build (Beta 2 - build 5384.4). This build features fixed Aero/DWM subsystem, Time Zone bug solved as well as quite a few fixes in the Regional Settings and IME. Microsoft has also announced that new mouse cursors will be made available for Windows Vista. Click here and proceed to download.

The link doesn't work for me, it just says page cannot be found.

Read the first line again. Are you a 'Vista for technical beta testers' ?

"you do not have permission to view it"

Maybe it's only available to people who are registered as IT professionals and given access to betas earlier than everyone else?

Edit: Beaten to it.

I love irony...they fix all the issues right AFTER I get the previous version stable .

LOL, yep, thats windows, also, the cursors pushed me over the edge too jimmy, I have to have it!

So how are we even supposed to get it?

A g-dsend... Or you find the torrent :)

There are no torrents yet... :wtf:

You people seem to like VISTA: Would you use it over 2000/XP/Server 2003?

See subject line/title & question therein-above...

:)

(I haven't used it myself, but have seen screenshots + heard others assessments &/or feelings about it, mostly positive (regarding improvements in -> features, aesthetics, useability, security, & performance + speed)).

* Just curious... "tia" on your answers, let 'em rip!

APK

P.S.=> A large % of folks here most likely have WAY more than the minimum recommended requirement for its constituent hardware listed, so I can't see that as being a barrier to its usage here, because of performance etc. but, still, would like to hear your thoughts as beta users... apk

Let's just say that if I had a dual core processor, a DX10 GPU, and maybe another gig of RAM right now, I'd be deleting my XP partition .

is it worth formating and installing vista or will it be buggy

It isn't too buggy but it isn't really that great other than the new appearance and uses up more system resources so I'd say don't get it unless you're sure you have space to spare on your hard drive.

Aha! Sounds like you like it...

:)

* Makes me almost want to give it a go myself...

APK

P.S.=> If I didn't have a "lab setup" here for the most part (development learning really, SQLServer 2005/IIS 6.x on 2nd rig, & Visual Studio 2005 on 1st machine to develop Windows Forms &/or ASP.NET to the 2nd server rig), I'd give it a try myself, after hearing a review like that one... apk

can you install windows xp software on vista

Yes, you can install almost all your XP software on Vista. But be warned, there ARE some programs that are currently incompatible with Vista, but Microsoft warns you before it lets you install them. You might want to read my log here before you download, install, and use Vista.
