Hello all,

Im thinking of purchasing a copy of windows vista. However - I'm not sure if its worth it...?

My specs are in my signature - Will I notice a diffrent in loading speeds.....?

If not - I'll just reformat windows :)

Please post your suggestions...

Hmm... stick with XP till Windows 7. If I wouldn't use 4GB of RAM, I'd be still using XP myself.

I like prefer the vista look, but it puts itself down because of the speed and problems it can have....

Vista is a solid OS for sure, I have really had an overall great experience with x64 in the last year I've used it and have no complaints. While I do look forward to 7, whether or not I'll be purchasing it upon release or waiting just depends on prices, my wallet and what others have to say. Even as good as the 7 beta is, there could be issues that stem from lack of support on the mfg's side and other things Vista faced in infancy. Right now Vista is very solid, there's no reason NOT to get it aside from waiting for Windows 7. Either way you're gonna see a very similar OS, as both are similarly built visual-wise, 7 just has more tuning and at least in beta stage was snappier.

There's no way I will go back to XP though, it's a great backup os for older rigs that aren't capable of handelling newer games and multimedia with DX10 and higher requirments, but if you have a capable PC imo it's almost a waste not to get the newer software support for the hardware you have. Many more games are supporting DX10 now than ever, the OS is solid, gaming performance is great, I have no X-Fi sound issues (haven't for a year+ with Vista tbh), there's a lot of good reasons. Though I would recommend trying before you buy if you can find someone that has an install disc, just install, don't type in a key, don't register online and it'll give you a 30-day trial of the OS, if you like it from there, then buy it.

:toast:

Ive got it here, just installed today and i HATE it! lol

but im gonna stick to it, ive just installed Company of heroes, im looking for the THQ directory in the start menu, its not there, its in the "games" section where you find solitare!

But yet Armed assault and NFS pro st are in there own directorys!

Also i just tried installing 3dMark06 and it just sat there on the microsoft C++ installation and did nothing for an age, so i reset it.

Windows 7 currently has DRM built into it. You download a song... Windows 7 will force its DRM onto it restricting its ability to copy/play.
So I won't be getting it until it removes all or most of its DRM.

Being a programming idiot I am using Vista Ultimate 64 and love it. I have noticed no probs, it plays all the games I play (even Starcraft)
It seems quicker to me and I bounce back and forth with 2 and 4 gigs of memory.

I dont know if I would ever pay near $275 for an OS but shopping around got me a very good deal on the ultimate disk.

Then there is that whole DX10 thing, without Vista (or 7) no DX10. Not that its a big deal right now, but with XP there is no way to use it.

I tried Vista RC1 quite a while ago and there were many issues, but as it matures it seems to work very nicely with all the new hardware. (reminds me of when XP came out, everyone was whining how much of a hog it was)

Mixed opinions I see.....

I am using vista AND I HATE IT:mad:but i broke my xp disk and so im stuck with vista!!!!!!!CANT WAIT FOR WIN 7 tho,the beta is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD:pdont hate me it is just my opinion:toast:

Personally, with 7 coming out sometime in the next year, and the way the Beta for 7 is working, I wouldn't spend any money on buying Vista.

My dad has a spare copy of Vista at work. So I wont be needing to buy it any more. Phew...

Either XP or Vista now...

Yep, Vista or Windows 7 will do very nicely on your setup.

I think Vista and Windows 7 are great. Seven is a little different and takes a few hours to get use to. Both are very happy to changes when you go about it correctly. I have had no DRM problems and I burn and rip everything I buy. I really do not see any speed difference in them.
Windows 7 is a beta and has a few foibles. And about the only time I have problems are drivers and that is even on XP.

So, it is a yes, go for Vista!:) Get it set up right and she will do everything, but have your kids for you.

If you like the vista look just get Windowblinds an change it. I myself was thinking of switching too but I am going to wait for windows 7.

I might stick with XP, Partition it until Windows 7.

I would do that. I read a report the other day somewhere that a laptop company head said that windows 7 will be out by the end of the year. He would know, since his lappy's would be using it. So I would wait. With 2GB a memory, it might run a bit slow

I would just go Vista. Wait for 7 to go SP1.

With your system I would use XP. If you had 4gb's of ram I would upgrade to a 64 bit O/S. the reason I use Vista x64 over XP x64 is because it is much more stable, I have never had an issue with drivers or running applications, and it looks better. With a minimal tweaking Vista x64 runs fast and smooth. Again though, with your current system and no reason to really upgrade to Vista, just stick with what you have.
