Did you try the latest version of winflash? I used the one found on the bios page when nothing else would work on a dead card. My card now lives and yours may too.

^nor am i :(

winflash didnt work cause it wouldn't open :(

also windows sees a 9600 (cause of the dev id built into the resistor config on the core) but i am unable to see the card in display prop (but it comes up fine in dev manager. :() (im using a pci vid card to boot btw ;))

im not shure if the problems are cause i have a x800xtpe bios on it or cause its a incompataple rom... :(

w1zz do you still have that broken 9600?

I have a 9200 I was flashing different BIOS’s to just to see if anything would happen. When I flashed it with a 9100 bios it died. Every flash utility told me no device found. I also saw the card in the device manager and with ATI Tool. Only win flash 1.0.5 worked. Reinstall your original bios chip and try it. Once you get the program running I can see no reason why it won’t work. I have "killed" my card many times since with 9600, 9550, 9250, and 9200 bios files. Every time win flash helps me out without any problems. Word of advice from a lesson learned though; backup your PCI bios just in case you accidentally flash it.:banghead: Your download of win flash may be corrupt. Try downloading it again. From what I have learned from my “research” is despite what ATI may say the 9200, 9550 & 9600 are all the same chip. There seems to be a difference in the resistor config but it is covered in very tough black crap. You basically need to destroy the gpu to mod it. Anyway what I’m getting at is it will work if your bios chip is still good.

One would think but I have literally torn apart to top of my core to see what it's all about. When the black crap comes off they don't look so different. I don't have an actual 9550 core in front of me just pics, but unless they are different sizes then I must conclude they are indeed the same just crippled. When I finish I will post some pics but I still have a ways to go before then. I don't want to kill it just yet and am going slow. I have looked at the under side of a 9550 card from the same manufacturer and the pin layout and components were exactly the same down to the quantity and placement. Whole different topic I know but interesting to me just the same.
Anyway goodluck on your flash.
Edit: I nolonger have a good picture of the underside/back of a 9550/9600 core. Looking closely a resistor seems to either be missing on my card or on another spot. Can somebody please post a quality pic of this area. If different I will change them around to see what happens. I can post the top if interested when it's no so ugly:eek:

nope not the same im shure see the 9200 is old tech
once upon a time they came out with some compleatly new tech called the 9700 (r300) which was improved to a 9800 which was cut down to a 9600 so in fact the 9550/9600 is not even based from the same tech as the 9200/9250 :)

:) i have infront of me a 9600se and a 9200se

yes they seems to use a intercompataple bga but no they aren't the same core
reason #1 the 9200 looks like it has like 1/3 as many core pcb layers as the 9600 reason #2 they have extremely diferent oces #3 the 9200 has one vertex and there is no card with that core that has ever had 2 enabled so it's logical to conclude that there is only one as aposed to the 9600's 2 :)
