i'm loving it. I started to read an article about it. the part I read said that Wolfenstein was something special. they weren't wrong, I cant believe how much fun it is. I was starting to get drawn more into VR games. this is the best gaming experience outside of VR I've had in ages.
If you think making a game of killing fake nazis is a "liberal love fest" I think you need to take a long hard look at your ideology, as that's all this really is.

I asked a question. Not a personal critique. You can kindly step off your perceptually offended soap box now. Like I said I read reviews and a lot of users were saying it wasn't about just killing nazis but playing into today rancid political environment. I play games to escape that crap. Is it true or not? Simple question that doesn't deserve a Tumble response. "Check your privilege".
I really think it's in the eye of the beholder. If you look for it, it will likely be there. That said anyone taking this game seriously as politically signifigant in any way needs to step off the soapbox, not me.
I'm not offended by the way. I find the whole thing rather comical frankly. It reminds me of when people were boycotting "Rogue One" for being antitrump. It's about that level of strange.

There was some flack about boycotting it on twitter. That's my point. I think people look for politics in places where there aren't honestly any. I agree with you this world is too political.
Maybe this isn't the case here (trying to make a non political thing political), but it's just how I reacted to it, sorry.
What bothered me most about the game was 1) it took some time to find best settings for my spec, 2) it isn't nearly as well optimized as the last two, and 3) the coding and/or drivers seem to be unstable. I played it with the AMD driver supposedly made for it too (17.10.3).
The main mission I had performance issues with was the 5th one where you go through the ruins of Manhattan. The frame rate there was about 1/3 of other levels. However I had huge FPS drops later in the game too, especially where you get to the upper level of the compound on Venus.
Plus I had a weird problem with black artifacts amassing around the shotgun in that part on Venus, but quitting the game and restarting it fixed it. In my searching these are the same kind of problems that were echoed by others, including one person doing a live stream on very high end spec whom had severe artifacts in a spot I had none.
I've also seen many report that 17.10.3 did nothing to improve performance for them, some claiming worse performance. Plus The game will make the Async Compute setting disappear in the game menu if you disable it, which makes me wonder if that means the devs are acknowledging it's broken. The config file for it shows it's still disabled though. I also noticed the game will often reset AA to the highest setting, which is another resource hog.
Once you finally find the right settings things go well for the most part, but this wild fluctuation in FPS between levels, settings disappearing, and AA kicking itself back up to max can be a real pain. It just feels like much of the coding was rushed.
I just updated to 17.11.1, and tested it thoroughly on CoD WWII, and it seems to be working fine for that game. That's another game that can take a while to dial in settings unless you have very high spec, but once I discovered what I need to turn down, I'm finding I can run it on much higher settings than I initially thought.
At any rate though, I'm hoping Wolf 2 will run better on 17.11.1 than it did on 17.10.3. As for the gameplay, meh, too many gimmicky scripted moments for my tastes. I mean I know MachineGames versions of Wolfenstein have always been rather over the top, but some things they've taken too far in this one. Like...
...BJ getting his head cut off, then it gets preserved, then he gets a new body. Plus the contraptions were very gimmicky and ridiculous. Merely an unnecessary way of excusing different pathways, especially since you end up finding you can use both the stilts and constrictor harness. IMO these kind of dev choices made the game feel laughable. In the last two I felt invested in the story, characters, and equipment. This one I couldn't really take seriously. To those implying over the top alternate reality stories shouldn't be taken seriously, the last two they managed to at least keep you interested in the story, characters, and gear. This one mostly just has more fluffy graphics, Rambo-ish segments, and contrived and redundant devices. I'm also hating the Enigma code puzzles and so far have yet to solve any. That said, the end boss fight I thought was great, and much better than the endings of the last two.
Watch some cheesy horror, like Stranger Things on netflix Great way to avoid politics. Also, I find that NOT reading the news daily, but instead weekly is very refreshing..
I ran it now and it works... using Vector 2D, else stock.
Something else....
It runs a 100 FPS with G-Sync and V-sync OFF (4K and über settings)
It runs at 60 FPS with V-sync on (on or adaptive)
IT runs at 60 FPS with G-Sync on (apart from Nvidia Control Panel the monitor menu also has a G-Sync on/off option and it does nothing apparently....)
Damn, just found out I need to scrounge more Enigma Codes to get the Venus assassination side missions. Anyone know if the ones randomly laying around are shown on the map as points of interest like other items are? As far as I recall none of the POI icons have yielded Enigma Codes so far.
As far as FPS monitoring, why aren't you just using the game's built in FPS counter, it works fine for just average FPS? Sure the min and max are broken and don't show right, but ave FPS shows fine at the minimal setting. I don't recall anyone saying they were attempting to cap frame rate, so had to ask. For that matter you can cap frame rate without even running a tool in your GPU panel.
no1 don't mix this game up with the likes of cod ww2. which is absolutely terrible btw... if you want to play one of the most advanced fps ever made.
buy the new wolfenstien. The diaolog is worth it alone. pure entertainment.
I'm forcing myself through cod ww2.... omg i'd get my money back if I could. it is terrible and for me, multiplayer is better in VR. ive never seen one person using an aim bot in vr... in cod its hacker ville. @Frag Maniac - for more enigma codes just keep loading back into the same map and kill the two generals. the enigma codes are on their bodies.
Also @rtwjunkie the latest afterburner rivertuner worked for me ingame, it failed to load once
and I had to restart my pc. really weird as it usually just works.
Yeah I'd already discovered that before checking back here. I went into the Manhattan Penthouse and kept popping the commander sitting in the chair. I think I mistook one of the paper collectibles with an Enigma Code once before.
I only have two more assassination missions now, and already got the code deciphered for one of them.
As for how WWII compares to TNC, meh, it's a mixed bag for me. The gameplay might be a bit better on TNC, but performance is better on WWII. Quite frankly neither are as good as I'd hoped they'd be.
