worth redoing network?

I have a dell 2716 switch sitting around collecting dust and i was wondering if it was worth gutting my network and redoing it all.
Let it be noted that the pc's stream alot of media to the owners console, and the server streams media to everything on the network, hosts game servers, and preforms backups every now and then.

it worth doing? i figure by leaving the media traffic and file transfers on a lower level it should ease the strain on the router, should i go ahead and do it?

It is definitely worth it if you do a lot of file transfers between the computers. Though I'd leave the printer on the wireless.

I'd say probably not. Most of out network runs on either B or G, and the 1 computer that's on Ethernet is just on 100mbps.

And everything that we do is perfectly fine.

it wont ease any strain on the router or anything dubious like that, it will simply allow for faster file transfers between the PC's.

to say it another way: the routers have dedicated switch hardware built in, so lessening network traffic doesnt do anything to the routers performance.

Just go ahead and run fiber in your house....you know you want too.

Seriously, anything coming in from the internet or going out to, is just gonna keep just as much strain on the router as before, like someone said before me the only think that the router will be reilved of are the nodes talking to other nodes on the gigabit switch. If you have to buy something, no. If you have it go for it. It will help some.
