Would a subwoofer still function if...

I used it to hold up my monitor? Basically, my monitor is a little too low for my tastes and I currently have 2 textbooks holding it up. If I bought a cheap 2.1 system to replace my generic HP speakers and used the subwoofer to hold up my monitor, would it still function correctly?

CRT? or LCD?
CRT bad idea
I would say that the shield from the 2.1 system would stop anything bad tho.

as long as the speaker can flex and the port isnt covered, it should work, but IDK about if you set it to high what the vibrations would do to an LCD long term. That would be my only concern. well that and having a huge magnet that close to everything else?!?!

As DM says, CRT no way it will destort the image due to said magnet.

It's an LCD. God I hate having my text books under the monitor, pain in the ass to yankem out every time I need to read them.

I rarely have my speakers high, my current has most likely never seen over 50%. So yeah, thinking about getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121014 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121019.

Second one looks better IMO.

Edit: Yup, if I do buy them I have to go with the second pair, since the first set's subwoofer has the speaker thingie on the side.

At walmart they sell these cool CD cases that are metal:)
Looks like a spy box

first set has more total power, should be louder.

Just find a box at the local goodwill or something....bricks work too and can usually be *borrowed* for free.

Oooh do they now? No Walmarts in NY though... >_>

I want something that can do 2 things at once. That CD case would have been somewhat useful!

You have other stores just like it. You have china town with all sorts of cool boxes.....at least I would think they had cool cheap boxes there.

They sell all sorts of other knock off stuff.

the sub will vibrate so much that the monitor will fall off.

lol no offense but surely you could find something else to boost your monitor up , like some wood, another book, dvd cases that you don't use/watch, um porn magazines that are stuck together :p. has to be something lol

Ahhh but there's like nothing else that can sit on my desk for a reason other than to boost up my LCD! I'm the kind of guy that uses everything for what it's worth.

then the obvious answer to your question, is no do not use the subwoofer for that. Instead buy something to boost your monitor up lol, then you could say you use everything you have since it would serve a purpose haha

Ahhh if that's the case then I don't even need a subwoofer. My terrible generic HP speakers work fine! I rarely listen to music, just watch videos. I don't need thumping bass for bad acting.

so you dont game?

Subwoofers are rarely magnetically shielded. Monitors should be 3+ feet away from a sub.
