I bought a "microPC" device as a pfSense appliance. It gets hot though, and needs a FAN on top of the case. There are headers on the board, but I cannot figure out what the hell they are. I originally thought they were the small ones graphic cards use, but they are actually about half that size, maybe 5mm or a little less.
What I bought is this: https://cwwk.net/products/cwwk-x86-...irewall-pc-2x-i226-v-2-5g-lan-fanless-mini-pc

Can anyone tell what connector I need for this? To be more specific, I need a reduction from this to regular 4pin PWM connector.

did they not provide any wiring harness that fits there?

looks like it has enough for PWM, so maybe get a voltmeter and try to figure out which pin is which. Or remove the heatsink and look at the PCB, it should be marked.

No, it's China. There aren't even any BIOS updates.

I need to identify what the fan header is so I can buy a connector/reduction.

Looks like a GPU fan header to me.

No it's not. The perspective makes it look that way though.

This is GPU FAN header:

The header on the motherboard of the device is about half the size. I've never seen anything like that. I guess it's not used in PCs.

well then contact the vendor/manufacturer.

Hi,
That is whack it's laptop pwm header hehe

Oh so that's what it is!

Oh so that's what it is!
Hi,
Yeah good luck finding a fan that will work on it
Might just try for a molex/ sata connector fan setup ?

Small device so maybe it's small enough to use a laptop fan in it ?

Well no, I need a reduction for it (and I said that in the first post!). I already have a suitable fan, but it's a classic case fan obviously.

Hi,
Okay I see
Yeah that 4 pin is so weak they offer the usb fan addon

What do you by mean weak?

I do currently use the USB fan, but it's noisy AF and can't be regulated, which is why I'm trying to find a way to connect a regular one directly into the motherboard.

Hi,
The 4 pin port you're asking about is weak this is why the manufacture used a usb for the larger fan for more power

You could how ever ghetto rig a fan controller to it so you can use the new fan or the existing one.

It seems to be a JST-XH connector

I don't think you have the slightest idea what are you talking about.

get a pwm fan 5v, and hotwire the pwm signal from that mobo header onto that. are you even sure that the header is PWM enabled and not just for show?

You're right. This header is i.e. used at 3D Printers. One can get SunOn fans with that header. Ranged from 5 to 25volts. Afaik also Noctua uses this header. 4Pin means that the fans are PWM. 3Pin is a voltage controlled speed. AFAIK the fans connected to a mainboard are 12v.

There ARE 2.54 to 4-pin FAN adapters from what I can see on Ali and such that are compatible with XH, so you might try your luck there. Whether or not the port on your particular device will carry the PWM signal is a mystery, to my knowledge there isn’t actually any official spec for how PWM is implemented on XH connectors, so despite being 4-pin it might NOT have it, contrary to what one might think.

Hi,
Thinking the same about you mate hehe

Just add a controller to the usb fan dude.

Claiming a fan header is "weak" by just looking at a picture while not even being able to type coherently in your own native language is certainly reasurring sign that it's me who is clueless here :kookoo:

Aha! Adapter was the word I was looking for, lol.

I'll check Ali.

i dont know if this will help but i thought id mention it.
i use one of these with my x99 board from china cus ive only one pwm fan header.
it has a switch high/low/ and off. i run it on low which is about 700 rpm so quiet.

fan con.JPG
mines 3 pin but thay do 4 pin as well i got it off ebay for £4 shipped.

Dude the manufacture didn't even use it but instead the manufacture uses a usb port for a fan
This is what you're not able to understand

Contact the manufacture and ask.
