I haven't seen any OC stats for the Sapphire x1600 256mb AGP. It doesn't matter if you own a ATI, HIS or Sapphire. If you could post your OC stats along with temps that would be great. Here are my stats:
OC with ATI Tool .25 Beta 11
Core 560 (Artifacts start showing at 585)
Mem 846/423 DDR2 (Artifacts start showing at 860/430)
Fan Speed 100%
Idle temp GPU - 45 degrees first hour and then peaks at 47 degrees celsius
Ambient Idle Temp - 35 degrees (Solid doesn't move)
ATI Tool .25 Beta 11 Scan for Artifacts Temp - Peak 71 degrees
BFMEII Demo (Ultra settings) or Quake 4 (2xAA) 1024x768 - 67 degrees peak
Quake 4 - 2xAA, 1024x768 - 45FPS
Quake 4 - NoAA, 1024x768 - 61FPS
FEAR Graphic Test (2xAA, 4xAF, High, no soft shadows at 1024x768) -
Avg 35FPS
FEAR Graphic Test (No AA, 4xAF, High, no soft shadows at 1024x768) -
Avg 43FPS

This is a great card for the money and if you don't want to make computer altering move to PCI-E. My next pc will be PCI-E.

Well, no and yes, Quake 4 runs great. Last night I tried to actually play FEAR and my card over heated 15 min into playing to 70.4 degrees causing FEAR to freeze. I have to turn down the clocks until I get some AS5 and a Zalman. No biggy, it's just FEAR is a different game when you are playing it to the test demo it offers. I never had any problems with the test demo within FEAR. Bummer. Right now I am running the x1600 Pro at 550/828 from 560/846. I am going to play FEAR tonight and see if these numbers work. I also have my fan running at 100%. So my cooling isn't the best, need to rectify this.

Well thnx for the info0 man I have a freind refusing to go pci e so I found your system which is so close to what he gots besides the card. Hes using a 9800 xt right now and was looking for something thatll run quake 4 and I was telling him he was going to have a hard time doing it with agp

Kurtis,

I would def. go with PCI-E. As you can see (esp. with the 7800GS) that the performance isnt as high as PCI and the cards cost more. It just isnt worth it. I would suggest to him to get a PCI-E board and then go for either a GeForce 6800GS or an x800GTO2 (they should be around $175, prob. cheaper). The mobo prob. $50-80 bucks. The performance would be greatly improved.

Yeah, no problem. I originally tried my x1600 Pro AGP with FEAR and it ran fine. I forgot to mention that. I just want to get as much out of the card as I can. I played FEAR with everything on high, 1024x768x32bit, no soft shadows, no AA or AF. The game still looks great and is very good. Quake 4 was awesome at 1024x768x32bit and 2xAA. Old school to say the least. I beat it the other night and it was a throw back to Quake II. The card is doing what I want it to and when I get AS5 and a Zalman or ThermalTake fan and mod it, it will do even more. I wish I could have gone to PCI-E. That is the way I wanted to go but I am remodeling the bathroom and have no funds to upgrade mobo and proc along with the card. That will be my next pc in 6/2007 though. I would agree with Bruins004. If your friend cannot afford to go to PCI-E at least there is an alternative AGP option.

Ya its not that he cant afford it I dont know what his deal is I have it and my last pc is pretty much what he has now but oh well. He scored almost 4000 on the 3dmark05. Im still waiting on my x800gto2 to get in, for now Im running the onboard x300 =) wich is actually alot better then I thought It would be. I cant believe I can play source with this onboard.

I have just ordered a Sapphire X1600 AGP Pro (256MB) and I already own a Radeon 9800SE (softmodded) with a Zalman VF700cu on it. From what I read, I should rip the heasink off the X1600 and put the Zalman on right away? I was thinking of testing which of the two HSFs does a better job, or is the original X1600 HSF so inadequate?

an ago card of similar specs will go pretty much like a pci-e one will.. everything else being equal.. decent ago cards are a little pricey thow..

trog

Got a Sapphire X1600 AGP 256Mb yesterday. First thing I did was to replace the original HSF with the Zalman VF700Cu that was sitting on my previous graphics card. I let the pc run for around 5 hours idling, temperature was 38-39 celcius (31-32 celcius ambient), at least that's what atitool said. Hitting 'Find max core' froze my pc at 617Mhz... will try again today after work.

i got a sapphire X1600 pro 256MB DDR2 mem and i get up to 590-432/864 overclocked to the max and fan at 100% and no artifacts and pecks at 67C and idle is 50C. stock is 500-400/800 and i have my fan set at to stay at 50C and theres no problem. i still got stock cooling and its pretty good but can anyone tell me a good X1600 pro cooler?>
