dont worry...your card is (im almost certain) fine...it is the driver/tools problem...try this...clean install windows, then all the stuff u need for system, then ati 5.13 drivers...i used CCC...then try to run overdrive to see how high the core/mem will go...if it only goes to 625, as mine did, try installing ati tool beta, but only change voltage of the gpu from 1.275 to 1.295 then hit apply...now run overdrive the core should go to 700 and mem to 800...i had the exact same problem as you, like the core would drop and it would only go to 628 :)...good luck

Most of you have already read my post on the other x1800xt thread but just in case you haven't, my Powercolor X1800XT 512mb arrived and worked fine for a day then started to die. It would display pink stripes even in the BIOS. After much research it looks like the memory was bad. I put in another PCIe card for testing and it worked fine so it was definitely the x1800xt.

A real bummer since I was getting around 9000 in 3DMark 2005.

well i tried everything , i actually used the DH zeropoint DRIVER CLEAN PRO , which cleans registry and cab. files from the windows completely meaning eliminates all remnants of drivers installed from before , by doing so i was able to run the x1800 xt with the 5.13 drivers , could complete one run of 3dmarko5 , scored 8845 .......... played some battlefield 2 , was getting happy that the card is nto bad , and then .............. my core started dropping which i saw in ati tools , increased voltage that did not help either , and if i tried to voerclock the card to normal clocks , wouldnt run anything , so basically its the card , so now its packed and gonna RMA it 2morrow !!! :(

I did a reformat too but it didn't help. It actually got steadily worse. I wonder if there is a bad batch of ram or capacitors and we have just been unlucky. I remember Gainward had a bad batch of Ti4200 that I read about a few years ago.

Oh well, I guess out of the 16 video cards I've bought one of them was bound to be a dud. Too bad it had to be the x1800xt.

Not sure about zOaib's problem but I am certain that this isn't a driver issue for me as I get this problem at POST, in the BIOS and it even occurs during a fresh install of Windows XP. Mine is also a Powercolor.

the rest of my machine is asrock939 dual sata2, opteron 165, 2gb ram

and sometimes on reboot i get "cannot display in this mode" on my dell 2005fpw, but if i cycle inputs the screen shows...maybe thats the equivalent of your garbled boot up screen?...the only time the core was dropping was when i tried to use ati tray tools or when i tried to overclock with the ati tool (cause ati tray tools report cannor read form bios, and ati tool flickers when the frequency is changed)...if i leave that alone, the core/mem stay put until the overdrive kicks in...if you tried just plain 5.13 drivers and the core still drops, there has to be something else reading form the card messing it up...unless there is some kind of hardware incompatibility, but if it works on my pos mobo, it should work in every other :)

I get pink and white text in columns at the boot screen when it should all be white text (I turned off the Asus logo in the BIOS). At first windows is okay but the more I use it it's displays pink lines as well. The system now crashes soon after starting a 3D App usually displaying checkerboard like effect and then I get a black screen.

yeah its my card see thats what i wanted to know , my core no matter i use ati tools or not , drops , and it went all the way down to 280 mhz .... .......... i knew it was donw because i was trying to bench in 3dmark and i was getting like 12-15 fps on that first test where the space men fight each other scene ................ and i knew that wasnt right , and right at that moment system halted and screen went white to blue to red , and thats where i shut the computer off and restarted ............... well RMA it is , hopefully i can get a better card next time ............ (GOD WILLING) !! :rockout:

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

SUCCESS !!! got the x1800 xt working , by cleaning out my registry and cab. with DH DRIVER CLEANER PRO , then installed the dhzeropoint 5.11 drivers and then i installed ati tool , only messed around with the fan control put fan on 80% continous , so the temps wont hit too high cause by default the fan only runs 22-28% speed , so anyways run 3dmark05 , hit the 9462 smoothly ........ razor u were right its not the card , i was just getting disheartened and really not looking into the symptoms correctly although i still get a garbelled asus boot screen , but hell i can care less for just that ............. bf2 is GORGEOUS ............ need for speed most wanted is EXTRAVAGANT !! , hehe :rockout: :rockout:

Well I was inspired to try again not really expecting it to work. I plugged it back in (after removing the 6200 test card and drivers) and it booted without the purple/pink stripes. So far so good.

Dowloaded drivercleaner and used it as per the instructions.

Installed the latest Cats 5.13 and then ATI Tool Beta. Set the fan speed based on the GPU temp - 60% to 55C, 82% above 55C etc.. Fired up 3DMark 2005. This ran okay. Rebooted to see if it this caused problems. Again everything seems fine.

Now here is the weird thing, I had repeated the above steps before but they made no difference. The only thing that I did differently was not screw in the DVI-to-Dsub convertor with a screwdriver.

But who cares what the problem was. I am just happy it is working so far.:D :D :D :D

Will keep you posted.
