So im asking, which Intel chipset will be better for a Core2Quad cpu 1066/1333 FSB. Or will it even make a noticable difference?

Im going to go with these two choices below

Intel X38 or X48?

i think there both the same you just have to look which brand oc Q's better

ive been thinking of getting one also but dont know if to go with CF or SLI :p

Hm, anyone know for sure if it will affect performance between the two?

They are the same, however X48 chips are binned higher than x38 chips which leads to better overclocking, power usage, etc..

Domy, if you'll use it at stock speeds, do not expect any noticeable performance difference between X38 and X48... X48 is basically a speed binned and re-badged X38.

what he said.

psst got a x48 f/s

If you're gonna go Crossfire, then yes, the X48 will take atleast a 10% lead over the X38. If you're staying single card then there should not be any difference at all.

Im confused :(

Is $200 with free shipping a good deal for a brand new Asus P5E3 Premium/WiFi-AP@n, LGA 775 DDR3 Intel X48?

Is it worth it to go to x58 next generation? with the tripple channel etc?

im confused now on my build. 4GB's of memory for either x48 or x58 is about the same price. The mobos are very close in price, and the corei7 920 is the same price as a Q9550.

Is the extra about $150 worth building a core i7 920 system compared to a x48 w/q9550 system?

:banghead:

Why don't you take an X48 board with DDR2 and save money on RAM? But, if you have the money for an I7 setup, it will be the best from your choices. Also, Crossfire again, if you wanna stick to one GFX, then the I7's lead will be minimal, however, once you go multi card setup, you will see gains on a rig with an I7 compared to a Q9550.

I'm not an I7 owner, nor do I have a Q9xxx cpu, so on that one, let the guys who have I7's judge.

My choice would be:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136054 --- 180$ for a DFI X48 with DDR2.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104038 --- 4GB Kingston HyperX 1066 (2 x 2)

And the rest on you.

the dark series dfi are kinda sucky.

i wouldnt go as far as saying the DArk boards suck, ive ran mine without 1 single problem, and have clocked my E8400 to 4.6Ghz stable, also no problems with 3 different brand of ram all clocked fairly easy

Ya, well, I know the Gigabyte is not the best in the world, but has a really simple bios, overclocks good.

ok, maybe not suck but they have far less options than a LT or UT

X48 doesn't take a lead in crossfire in any tests I've seen.

Well if this is going to be a pc ill have for awhile and its worth to spend the extra 100 or so for a new generation technology, then ill finance a little of it. This way i will be covered for a long time.

I was looking at this setup

Just waiting for the mobo and cpu heatsink to come in stock.

agreed there, i have that board that was linked to earlier and zero problems so far, havent yet explored its full overclocking potential, there are actually too many BIOS options IMO. But yea, the LT & UT all the more bells & whistles while DK doesnt but they also cost accordingly. Think of DK as boards for enthusiasts on the budget.

I personally recomend getting a P45 board to the OP if he is not doing crossfire and going for 775. DFI DK P45-T2RS Plus sells for $140 right now. Plus there are other options out there for P45 like Asus P5Q Pro
