x800gt unlock 4 pipes is it possible?

Ive got a powercolor 475/980 with 2ns ram chips. I flashed it with a x800xl bios just to test. I see alot of x800 are bios modded. Is there a conductive ink mod too to get at least 12pipes?

well if you did flash a xl bios to that card im thinking you are having problems... cause those use diferent cores....

I didnt install the drivers but it seemed fine, flashed right back when I saw 8-pipes still.

What concerned me was that I chose a card which had no "vivo" cause gt has no "vivo" only DVI (dual) + HD something, from the powercolor website.

I've flashed the ATI and the PowerColor X800 XL, X850 XT, and X850 XT PE bioses (with modified speeds) to my PowerColor X800 GT. All 3 worked just fine, but none unlocked any pipelines. Actually, the PowerColor X800 GT's bios has it identified as an R430 even though it is said to be an R480. There must not be much difference between an R430 and R480, since bioses for both work on that card.

Even though it doesn't seem to be unlockable, the $162 I paid for the card is still quite a bargain.

Is the price for the X800 GTO going to be quite a bit more than the X800 GT?

I can buy a 12-pipe 400/490 gddr3 card for basically the same price now and its not 2 weeks since I got this gt 475/490 - makes me want to buy that and return this, but what next? New cards and next gen parts are coming soon. Also the Sapphire is being touted as having 16-pipes unlockable via bios, but I dont see that anywhere.

If I didnt know any better I would be happy with this card but I bought this card and then next day I read some are unlockable with just a bios flash, and this winds me up. :mad:

Hmm, looking at pricewatch.com, I finally found a place that the X800 GTO is available. It seems to currently have a price range of $210-260; $50-$100 more than I paid for my X800 GT and out of the price range I want to pay for a video card.

you guys need to use the moded flashrom when you flash to a higher piped x800/x850

otherwise it will stay at that amount of pipes

I didn't use the modified flashrom, but I did use atiflash 3.09 with the -newbios option, which in the guides was said to be equivalent.

Theres more to it...

Hum.. AFAIK flashing the bios to unlock pipes only works on the x800 GTO as it has its pipes locked in the bios but other cards require a hardmod which is to move a resistance on the core. Softmods (driver hack) might also allow this but i beleive that only worked on the 9500->9700 mod.
