x800GTO2 with ati silencer temps?

Hi all. Seems like a friendly comunity here so I thought I'd float some questions out here...

Firstly, can anyone tell me average temperature settings of the x800 GTO 2 card (unlocked, but at stock speeds). The reason I ask is because I have a gigabyte K8N mobo, with the chipset cooler directly under the pci-x slot...which I suspect is raising my graphics card temperature...a lot.

Secondly, I have fitted an arctic ati silencer 5 (rev. 2) to the card and wondering if I could compare ATI Tool temperatures with someone that has done the same thing to the same card. I get about 45 degree idle (mem and core). After a heavy BF2 session, this climbs to about 62 degree (with the case slightly open!). Im sure this isnt right and was worried that I hadnt tightened the fan enough. I want to push the card to make BF2 run a little more smooth at full whack...but at 62 degrees with the case open and standard speeds, is this a good idea?

Any advice or temperatures to compare mine to would be great!

Thanks guys.

mine fully clocked and tweaked (artic cooler) runs mid fifties c under load.. mid 30-ies idling.. yours runs hotter but not enough to worry about.. some passively cooled ati cards run in the 90c region out of the box..

and my x1900 compared to my x850 is like a bloody furnace.. these things run far hotter and remain okay than most folks think they do..

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Hmm...so we are talking about a 10 degree difference under load and a 15 degree difference idle. I think thats enought o look at tightening it all up again...

Also, after unlocking the card to 16 pipes and the extra shader, is it worth replacing teh BIOS with the x850XT one? What are teh benifits of doing so? (apart from it device manager reporting a different name).

Cheers

i never did i use atitools 3D dectect to run my card at default gto speed for 2D and crank the speed up for 3d.. it all works perfectly.. u need to make some profiles then save em.. a slighty dodgy one for say benching.. a fast but stable one for gaming.. and a default slow one for 2D.. get 3D detect to load the gaming one for games and reload the default one when the game shuts down..

if u want to boost the memory timings for 3D use these..
