Kinda wanna mod the case of my Xbox 360 to help improve cooling while making it look a little bad ass, Im hoping to pain it and maybe cut a window in it, what tools do you guys recommend for the job, and what type of paint should I use. Any and all input is appreciated :)

Well a dremel kit is a good start for mods, search around the web and see what others have done so you can decide what you like and what you dont and get some unique ideas. With paint it really depends on the quality you want, the more quality the more money you will tend to spend..but you'll probably want to do some sanding first, then apply base primer coats, your paint color and then some clear-coat, all of which you could do rattle can style if you wanna save some cash, if you practice and keep a careful hand it'll turn out quite well, I'd say get some high temp grille paint in flat black and paint it for a kind of spec-ops theme with some blue cathode LED's, that'd be pretty awesome. I have a buddy at a local body shop that painted my PS2 Slim Chevy Bermuda Blue Metallic (sweet deep dark blue with some almost teal accents), it was AWESOME! But I sold it a while back...kinda bummed out now..cause all I have is a basic PS2 that's boring...it never get's used...maybe I'll mod it too!

Yea I second all this dremel praising, they're amazing through and through. The cathode work would be really nice and of course the clear side panel is a must. If you could remove as many parts as you can without damage and get some green UV paint and paint the inside of the case. Then use some UV cathodes, straight UV, blue or green would be cool. And the black theme/special opps, that Kursah is talking about would be sick especially backed up with green UV and green UV cathodes. With the best! (we want pics!!!)

i like el wire better, it's flexi and not quite as bright so it's not distracting

wow those due look really nice. Those along with a side panel would look great. I do still suggest something U, it would be unique and look really good at a LAN.

Im liking what Im reading, and I went ahead and did the first step I cracked her open with some fresh AS Cermique in my hand, then i went to unscrew the final 8 screws off the bottom of the case surrounding the CPU and GPU heatsinks and all the sudden my Torq bit doesn't fit anymore, Any suggestions on what size I should buy? I have a T-10 and some other small one i found at my house that worked fine on all but 2 screws.

You need a T8 and a T10 I found out alot of sites say a T10 and a T12 but thats just fiction from other sources, Im gonna have to run to Home Depot later or tommorow to pick up this bit and then finally get to work on it, Now if u look at http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2611&p=1 that shows you what the mobo itself looks like and Im going to be adding some new AS Ceramique to both the CPU and GPU and then add some small copper heatsinks to the memory. I then hope to finish up with a 30-40mm fan screwed into the back of the CPU heatsink to help push air through the fins even more, and then on another not the case will be getting a black makeover as well. Ill post picks when I can.

Nice, I cant wait to see the pics, besides changing the thermal paste, are you going to change the cooling up at all?

Interesting... as much as I love modding from scratch, I'd probably just go for an XCM aftermarket case for my 360. I'll wait 'till it's out of warranty first though :)

Buying one of those cases are sweet, but its cool to have a custom mod to your stuff:toast:

That's very true :)

The only reason I'd really consider the premod 360 cases is that modifying plastics can be quite tricky to get just right, so if the hard work is already done...

But that said, I'm an engineer - I work with metal, not plastics. So I'm more than happy to hack up a PC case but getting over-enthusiastic with a section of polycarbonate isn't really my bag. :)

Yea the problem with plastics is that anything you use to cut it will most likely heat it up and morph the plastic making it all ugly and what not. So the pre modded case is a good idea with your own custom lighting

yup! when i did mine i had to cut it slow because i didn't have anything to cut plastic with, but if you got the dremal plastic cutting tool, it won't melt it............but after i got done cutting and it had melted the edges a little i got a file and grinded the rough spots down :)

good luck btw if you plan to do it yourself

Yea that heat is def a problem, make a sketch that you could put the case on if you dremmel it so you dont have un even lines and make it ugly :p
