Xbox One Controller Connects Via Bluetooth to PC But Does Not Work Properly

I have the latest Xbox One controller. When connected via usb c cable, the device works perfectly. However, when connected via Bluetooth, all the buttons on the device is messed up in games. For instance, for NieR Replicant, None of the buttons on the controller controls for things that they normally would under game setting. For Sekiro, some buttons work but some don't (the attack button does not work).

I have been search through the internet but the only things I found were people experiencing problems connecting via bluetooth. Unfortunately, I can successfully connect, I just can't get the device to work properly.

System Specs:
I use a bluetooth 5.0 adapter with the latest driver.
I have updated the controller with the latest software update as well.

Thank you

Get the genuine Xbox adapter and use that, they all work really badly on bluetooth

elite series 2 here, the controller becomes a generic one over BT, but games can recognise it as Xbox via the adapter

I thought the Xbox adapter comes with the Xbox 360 and only works with Xbox 360?

i have the Xbox one controller. I don’t believe there was an adapter that came with my controller when I bought it. Is this adapter something I must purchase separately?
Thanks mate

it can come with or without the adaptor, the new slim black one works with all the modern controllers (and works waaaaay better than bluetooth)

Buy Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 - Microsoft Store en-AU

buy it wherever you find it cheap, thats just an example link

Any specific reason why you want to use it via Bluetooth and not wired?

the Xbox controller supports microsofts 2.4GHz connection and wireless as SEPERATE technologies

and the bluetooth is the worst one by far

I have an Elite 2 and a Xbox One both of them wired, tried the Xbox one via Bluetooth and tbh wasn't a pleasant experience.

That's cause you were using BT. I'm using 2.4 Ghz wireless adapter (the new one) for probably over 2 years now and can't complain. Same adapter can be used for them new Xbox Wireless Headphones.

Quick google shows that people that were having same issues have sold them once they bought the wireless adapter and use that to connect.

That's bull. I have two Xbox One controller (one's sold now) and have them work on my PC via Bluetooth for many years now.

While connecting it via BT, try opening Control Panel>Device and Printers>Xbox Wireless Controller>Game controller settings>Properties and test all inputs to see if they are registering normally. You can do the same in the Xbox Accessories app (installed via WIndows Store).

range is worse, jitter and failed button presses, games often dont recognise it as an xbox controller, and any time its plugged in to be charged it forgets what its paired to, and has to be deleted and repaired

Yeah, BT sucks on them

Again, I have not experience any of these issues you have (range is probably worse than 2.4GHz wireless but I'm only playing it right in front of my PC/monitor, not far away like a HTPC/TV setup) and I've been using the Xbox One controller via BT for years now.

EDIT: to add, I'm also using a wireless BT keyboard at the same time and have found no connecting or input issues with any of them.

Mine works fine connected to bluetooth, there are issues with it when I have other devices connected but that's the fault of the adapter not the controller.

I want to chill on my bed wire gaming on the big monitor which will be too far way for wire to reach

Testing show up as normal. It is just that when I open up the game, the gamdpad stops working (for some games). Cyberpunk is the only game I found so far that register all the buttons properly over bluetooth

I mostly use my Xbox controller sitting in front of my main PC, but once every few days will take it upstairs to game on my HTPC, where I'm laying on the bed a couple meters away from the Wifi/BT antenna.

All I can say is the $30 Xbox wireless adapter (CAD, USD probs cheaper) is totally worth it if you're not up close. Fair bit less latency when far away (when up close, BT and adapter are about the same) and much more consistent performance when far away as well (no missed button clicks or random phantom thumbstick movement). If you pick it up from say Best Buy or Amazon, you can always return it in 30 days if it doesn't work for you or isn't that much of a difference.

Also if you ever need to use the controller on more than 1 device, the adapter is a must. The wireless adapter you just unplug and take with you, plug it in and the controller connects directly to the adapter. And before inevitable "well it must be your BT hardware", I have Intel AX200/BT on both of my rigs with the huge ass freestanding Asus and Gigabyte AX antennas, and my MX Master Gen1 always works just fine even at the same distance lying on the bed.

However, this button binds thing just sounds like a game issue to me if all your firmware is up to date, and especially since it works in Cyberpunk. This may be a misguided assumption but I thought for a lot of Japanese games PS controllers just work better?? Dunno

I have the exact opposite experience regarding functionality. I have the ~2020 version of the Xbox core controller (with microUSB, and the traditional 4-way D-pad not the 8-way hybrid D-pad) and it has never worked properly in Genshin Impact when connected over a wired connection. BT and wireless adapter are the only way I can play that game, because when wired it'll initially purport to recognize the controller then in about 5 seconds say that my controller has been turned off/disappeared.

Are there more games (other than the two you've mentioned) where you have this problem? I don't have Nier:Replicant or Sekiro but I know BT (should) work in Nier:Automata.

Hmm, I guess i can download automata to try it lol

I recently got an Xbox Series X controller and I had to connect it with a cable and download the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store to update it and install drivers. Dunno when they started that but perhaps it might work for your situation.

I believe this is required if you want to update the controller's firmware, and it has to be done via cable last I've done it. It might help you @PeacefulTech

Just get an logitech f310 gamepad. I have one. When you click the middle button it displays the xbox game bar. Make things more complicated than they have to. If you want the controller to have xbox related software. THIS is just a suggestion. For you to save time and money. Only 19 dollars.

For me it was actually required to get it to work correctly! I didn't have this with Xbox One controllers though.
