XBOX360 vs PS3: Graphics...

The PS3 seems to have worse lighting, yet sharper textures.

xbox360 is using the new unifined shader acrh, (DirectX 10 Technology) while the PS3 is using the same technology found in the 6800GT cards.

so which is better in terms of gaming performance?

performance is usually fixed at 30 or 60fps by the game devs.

the ps3 does use the hdd more often the the x360 as a page (virtual memory)/ temp dir.

but the ps3 can do 1080p gaming...i believe the x360 can only do 1080i.

nope with the latest update, the Xbox 360 can also do 1080p gaming :)

my 24 inch Dell LCD does not want to display 1080P though..:banghead:

cheers

From all the review that I've seen and heard, the 360 has a slight edge in better looking graphics. I think it's way to early to tell right now. When the original X-Box came out I thought it was crap (and being a ps2 owner), but after a couple years with games like Madden it blew the ps2 out of the water though I love my dual shock. I would love to see sony come out with an upgraded ps2 with AA or something but just a pipe dream. Graphically I think PS3's troubles will be with it's 7800 graphics unit. Can't stand Nvidia, but that's a whole other subject.

if you look at the specs of the 360 its looks like it has a Triple Core CPU each core running 3.2ghz and each core has 2 threads so would that be like intels Hyperthreading effectivly making the 360 have 6 cpu's? also the GPU in the 360 look to be a ATI x1900XTX...

oh,i believe Xenos chip (Xbox360) is clearly better of performance against the PS3 hardware.
HDR against bloom efect...

Graphics processing unit
Main article: Xenos
While the first Xbox's graphics processing unit was produced by NVIDIA, the Xbox 360 uses a chip designed by ATI called Xenos. The chip was developed under the names "C1" and "R500".[48] Xenos contains 48 unified shader units, which are capable of both vertex and pixel shading operations. This is in contrast to older graphics processor designs which utilize separate specialized units for these tasks. The GPU package contains two separate silicon dies, each on a 90 nm chip with a clock speed of 500 MHz; the GPU proper, manufactured by TSMC and a 10 MB eDRAM daughter-die, manufactured by NEC. Thanks to the daughter die, the Xenos can do 4x FSAA, z-buffering, and alpha blending with no appreciable performance penalty on the GPU.[49] The GPU also houses additional capabilities typically separated into a motherboard chipset in PC systems - effectively replacing the northbridge chip. An aluminium heat sink is also implemented to cool the GPU, it is wider and shorter than the CPU heat sink.

source...tah wiki?!?!

alpha blending? that just came out in 6.12...

so is that comparible to a x1900xtx or something better? i dont think we can compare the cpu of the 360 to any desktop cpu out as of now.........i wish i could run 3dmark on my 360:shadedshu

well 3dmarks usualy rates you more on your gpu, and the x360 is just a gaint graphic card  :pimp: :twitch:

...so if possible, the number would be high.

to me, the 360 has the better graphics i.e. lighting and textures. when it comes down to it though $400 > $600. cant wait till i get my 360 :P

i havent even seen a PS3 yet...all isee is the specs and people talking about them,i think i will stick with my good ol 360

This would mean that the ATI graphics processor for the Xbox 360 is better than the custom Nvidia one made for the PS3. Actually, the graphics on both machines are amazing, with the Xbox 360 lighter on some games and darker on others as well as PS3 being the same. In some places, the PS3 blows away the 360, in others, the 360 blows away the PS3. Its a moot point, but both look gorgeous. I think the PS3 will be the eventual winner. As we know, its extremely difficult to code games for the PS3, alot more so than the 360. I bet in a couple of months, the PS3 will look so real, its like a movie. Just my guess though.

just go to any ebgames or gamestop...and possibly best buy now. they have a unplayable demo (sadly and stupid) running. it looks the same as the 360. but has one crapy release title, and doesnt seems to be any realy good games on the horizon.

edit: Just looking at IGN, there is NONE unique title that look appeling.

Gt:HD seems to be a major let down, for the fact it will cost around 400-500 buck to own the entire game (you have to use really money to buy new cars). But there is always Metal Gear to back it up, but one game aint going to cut it.

really, if you are buying a ps3, your are just getting it for its blueray...sadly :(

now the 360, well there are so many anticpated titles and a great titles to back it up. with an offical hddvd and steering wheel, the 360 is on my wish list ;)

sorry eagle, i respect you in all but uh *cough* bullshit *cough*

if we take a look at its architecture we can compare it with G80 due to the unified shaders.although they are less in number.

Seems like the PS3 also has better reflectivity on the 3rd pic (car bumper)

RSX has a lot of gamma i guess....fainted colours....

This is one argument that wont be resolved :banghead: The XBOX360 is amazing (for a console) I love my firmware flashed beauty ;) But the PS3 looks like its going to be an awesome system too and will be backed by some of the best gaming companies in the business.

As for the graphics side of things, I think the 360 looks better from the screenshots (as Ive never seen an actual PS3 yet) but both machines will get better as time goes one ;)

From what I read in an article at another forum that explained very technically the ins and outs of the cpu and gpu of the 360 and ps3, the Xenos is an R600 based chip. Like a R600 beta with a huge amount of dram. It doesn't have the raw power of the RSX or a X1900XTX, but outperforms both because it was made to be efficient as possible. Wish I could find the link to the article.

Edit: Here is the article I was talking about.

Page 8 is the one talking about the 360's Xenos.
