XFX 6950 1GB Flash testing

Congrats! It sounds like you followed the steps i posted earlier exactly and they worked for you too. I believe most having problems are changing more than just the shader unlock in RBE. Lots of newbs think they are experts at everythi9ng and go tweaking everything possible and are surprised when something messes up...

Yea your guide was good. I think I may have changed more (maybe?) which is why I bricked mine originally.

At any rate, ran furmark all night at 900/1250 and its totally stable. My only complaint is that the fan on these cards are woefully inadequate for overclocking. Temps in 3dmark read about 84C with fan @ 100%. Not a killer temp but I like my gfx cards under 80.

UPDATE:

I have failed to unlock the shaders on my second xfx 6950. I followed the same procedure as in my previous post, but the shaders have not yet unlocked. Will try editing the bios a bit more, see if I can succeed.

EDIT2:

Modifying the bios with anything other than "unlock shaders" causes win7 to not even BSOD, just crash and reboot loop. So, I believe my 2nd xfx card is locked to 6950. Maybe it is completely random whether you get a chip with good shaders vs. bad?

I believe it is locked on the chip. The pin mod allows the BIOS to be written, but the chip itself is laser cut. I tried the same mod on the XFX (v3) and it failed. The Visiontek shares the identical PCB and also failed.

Both of my xfx cards are version va3. One worked, other didn't. Its possible these xfx cards have the lowest tier binning from AMD, unsure. I am 1 for 2 on my two xfx cards. Both OC to 900/1325 @ 1.1v (stock voltage)

Hi! this is my first post :)

I bought an XFX 6950 2GB 695X-CNFC v.A1, but no dual-bios in it (I got another XFX 6950 1GB 695X-ZNFC with dual bios and unlock fine)... the question is: I am from Argentina, so the warranty is cover for a year by the shop where i bought this... I dont want to remove the stickers to make the mod, so, is there any other way that i can try to make that bridge to try to unlock it? (the only chip in the car is in the inside)

Thanx to all by the way, really usefull post here !!

ps: sorry for my english :(

695x ZNFC VA.3

So I applied the hardware mod jumping pins 3-8 to unlock bios. Bios flashes great now.

I saved my bios from gpu-z and edited in RBE to unlock shaders only. Re-flashed and no joy. Still showing 1408.

I then edited (in RBE) a bios that I had saved from atiflash using the -s switch. Still no shader unlock.

When I save my bios now from the card and load into RBE, it shows the unlock setting already applied. So I think that confirms that the unlocked bios is applied to the card.

Any other ideas on how to get this to unlock? Will removing the hardware mod have any effect? Are there any confirmed BIOS downloads available that I could load instead of making my own?

@jezzzy: I have the same problem as you, I did the mod and the bios flashes ok but not unlocked shaders is shown... save the "new" bios with atiwinflash/gpu-z and shows the 6970 shaders count but nothing, still got 1408.

BTW I tried in DOS with atiflash and no luck neither :(

anyone?

can any one help me please. iv been looking all over for help to figure this out and iv got to be close. all i want to do is raise the limits of my clock settings PAST 840 and 1325 i dont care to unlock the shaders. i have a new 2gb 695x cnfc va.1 (without the bios switch on it) so iv bridged the 3 and 8 pins on the bios chip. and still all i get from winflash is"cannot erase ROM"
i have tried following this guys directions but cant seem to figure it out...http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2134576&postcount=19
i get "system cannot find the path specified" so ya im stuck. its probably something simple im missing to get the command right in dos but im not pro by far. any help would be great

You shouldn't need to mess with the bios to unlock clock settings. What app are you using to OC?

Save you guys the trouble. The pin mod only seems to work on a few of the VA.3s. Pinmod unlocks the BIOS for flashing, but shaders are locked elsewhere. I had the same issue.

afterburner. i wanted to clock higher than 840... so i figured out what i was doing wrong and got it to flash. all i did what raise the clock limit to 1025. then it would blue screen. so i flashed it back. im done messing with this thing. im returning it and getting this. http://www.meritline.com/showproduc...deo-card-radeon-hd-6970-2gb-gddr5-pci-express
can any one confirm that i will be able to play with the bios overclock limits on this thing? i know i wont really need to mess with the bios right now but i think im going to water cool it in the future. or if any one has one of these, is there a need to play with the bios at all? or are the volt and clock limits already plenty high enough to fry it?

I have this card, my experiance

Got this card ... it does not activate the other cores, but it does flash after you do the wire trick.

again just my experience in a nutshell. Questions welcome.

Hi guys, will This mod work with the 2 Gb version of this card..ijus want to increase the clock to 900MHZ and add the Voltage.then any of you guys who has water cooled this card.Would like to know wat GPu Block you used.

Anybody unlocked the xfx 6950 xxx 2gb Video card?
