Impact (mini-DTX) in HT5 (5.3L). I think we've finally run up against the hard limit of how small we can go :( don't really notice it in the L5 but the case really isn't much bigger than the board itself anymore

Since Impact has no iGPU output (dGPU required), DTX makes sandwich layout impossible, and SO-DIMM.2 necessitates 70mm+ of vertical clearance (and even then requires half the heatsink removed). Had to give up the Lone L5 again because DTX won't fit properly, but i begrudgingly admit that the HT5 does have better airflow

Oh no, it isn't about forcing myself. It's about wanting to take the challenge on (that and daily over 40C ambient temperatures where I live during the summer).
My current rig looks mighty fine and is as low maintenance as can be (everything on air), but it is a hotbox.

Trying a loop at least once is still a worthwhile experience. Even if you eventually go back like I did. Good diagram, I relied on one heavily when planning mine too.

I made it a goal of mine that for my next build I will cool it with a custom WC loop (so much so that I made a mock blueprint), it's just that there's no justifying rebuilding for some good years.

25mm fans?

Telling you they are going the way of Nvidia GPU so best to plan accordingly. :p

Could I fit 28's? Possibly. But I designed everything using approximate dimensions, specifically around a Lancool III case without its exact numbers and a Radeon card (GeForces would be noticeably shorter).

thank you so much for running them. So you are not running any negative curve? If so, try that. it'll make a nice difference in temps.
Setting PBO to -20 and did a run of R24. I'll mess with it some more this weekend. -20_R24_Screenshot 2024-04-17 194208.png

you should be able to go a little lower. I believe there's a way to do it by core as well if you really want to get into that and optimize it. For me personally it's too much work. I was able to get all core -35 stable for everyday use, and for benchmark I can get away with -40 which for me I think I got a pretty good chip. So just to give you a rough idea, most people are able to get like -25 so I think you have a bit more to go.

I can also do -35 daily and -45 for short stints, but they look like they've got a 16-core. Big Fmax gap and differences in CCD binning is no joke especially vcache 1, any curve optimizer below -10 on the high core count parts should really be done carefully on a per-core basis imo

you know what, I would have bet my life on it that he was on a 7800X3D. So much so, I didn't bother to look at the specs in his CB runs. In that case then yes. You are absolutely right with your post. Good catch and thanks for pointing that out.

As far as -45, you know I never tried it. I wonder if I can get away with it for a short stint? I'll try some time soon just for shits and giggles :)

If the smiley didn't suggest subtext.

Fully appreciate that hardware is considerably higher priced and harder to purchase in your location. To equal amounts as how often standards change for no other reason than making consumers repurchase every component. Everything turning into comically proportioned bricks makes a statement that stands on its own.

In fairness it was a plan which is prone to change. 30mm or even 35mm fans are not absurd for practical reasons in a hot and humid climate. :):)

just swapped a sata cable as it was causing my boot ssd to disconnect occasionally (once in few days), hopefully it's alright now (will be clear in few days). Also did a little bit of cable mangament despite this being a old school case which is not familiar for it.
