I got pretty scared last night. I have no idea what the hell my parents were doing but they blew the circut breaker, right when I was doing a stability test with my new OC settings... :shadedshu power goes out, and I hear kind of a looud THUD (my speakers make that noise when they turn off) and I'm like OH SHIT OH SHIT IT BLEW UP :banghead:

t remember why. Nothing got harmed though.

could it be that it might be?!? Because I have a cmos mod for a switch, and it right there next to my fan control for my thunderblade... I don't know how long it takes me to even turn the fan up since I'm scared to maybe hit that switch! lol

Blue flame

When in a strapped customers home trying to salvage a dying machine and all of a sudden a huge blue flame in the case......and black acrid electrical fry smelling smoke out of the PSU fan.......should of seen the guy's face and mine. :laugh:

when i was younger and didnt know anything about computers. i think i messed something up in my brothers computer, like the registry/drivers/dllfiles...something. it wouldnt boot. so when he came home at like 3 in the morning he got me up and wouldnt let me goto sleep unitll it was fixed....:shadedshu

When I were several (10+) years younger i thought changing a CD Drive was as simple as plugging in a few wires, as my 32 speed cd drive had stopped working i went and purchased a replacement and proceeded to install it into my then monster system (Pentium 233mhz, s3-virge 4mb vga 4mb richeous orchid 3dfx, 3.2gig Hdd and a whopping 64mb or ram in an AT case) and fried the board creating clouds of smoke. The only thing that was damaged on the computer was the actually motherboard which cost over £100 for a new TX main board, the whole scenario left me scared of electrical equipment for some years afterwords until i built myself a P4 and nipped that phobia in the bud.

My worst computing experience is with my old sktA board and agp graphic cards (9600xt and x850pro). The computer wont post like 75% of the time. I had to do this funky trick to get it to work (had to hit the power button, flick the power switch on the power supply, flick the power supply back on, then hit the power button...all in like 1 second). I found out my agp port isnt giving enough juice to the card, but the bios had no option to up it. I fixed it when i got a fx57 and a new agp 939 board. The next would be bsod during boot on the new machine after 1 year, i diag. everything. Then i just pulled out my audigy sound card and every thing work. I thought the card was bad, but on my current rig is still works. I bought a cheap cmedia sound card to replace it (i hate integrated). Another bad experience is get a virus that craps out your machine, or get some random system32 file is corrupted, and having to backup everything via another machine and restore...its takes like a week to recreate the system on how it was before.

i flipped the red switch on the back of a PSU once. thats how i learned 240V is bad for a PSU set to 110.

Lots of people flipping the 120/240v switch. I did that too but nothing bad happened (just not while it was on, I shut it off, flipped the switch then turned it on, black screen so I shut it off went back to 120v all is well again)

No problem for us, we use 110v, setting to 240v makes no difference.

but from some one in other country who has 240v...big difference.

LESSON

Never install a new OS onto a HDD with data on it.

ALWAYS get a new drive, once up and running, transfer the data from the old drive over.

My worst 4 experiences:

1./ 2 year old daugther plays with external HDD and drops it. All my installation files and library of materials GONE. $$$ of software and serials gone. :-(

2./ Tried Vista Transformation pack, just to test the look and feel. Didnt work too well on Windows 2003, so unistalled. BUT ... whoosh... no boot. Reinstall needed. :-(

3./ Ran a keygen with Antivirus off and internet on. OMG. Those malwares have some amazing coding dont they? Reinstall needed.

4./ Long time ago... came back from Singapore with a socket 7 AMD K6-3 to upgrade my PC. Cost a fortune at the time. Worked for about 10 minutes. FANTASTIC. What a speed up. played DOOM (1). Incredible. Then freeze. Reboot. Dead. Chip fried. Never bought AMD again.
