It's Google.

New PM comes in, changes everything according to the new "vision" that they have been brought in for. Engineering or common sense has no say.

Also, those audiophiles ramblings can damage your brain.

Use extensions.

What would that do for me and youtube ?

I do use extentions so i have no ads

Looks like they swapped around the comments section with the "watch these instead", so now the latter is more prominent.

Horrible modern web app policy which for some reason is obsessed with promoting content thats not what you there to watch.

The only good thing about youtube from all this seems to be that they seem to exempt very old accounts from some of these changes.

Haven’t hit me yet. As always, Google does this silly thing where they roll out design changes in waves to users, ostensibly to “gauge the reaction”. They never go back on them, though, so no idea why they bother. Did the same with Chrome recently. My Dads PC got the new UI a month or so before my own, despite me being on far newer hardware and OS.
Unfortunately, unless someone makes an extension that will on the fly rearrange the web pages of YT back to the old design, I think you are out of luck here. It’s all on Googles end, after all.

Didn't work for me, i think it's for an earlier version of youtube

I wouldn't know really. Because in the last 6-7 years I'm using this:

just got this update as well. fucking hate it, if anyone has a solution, please share.
gonna try a few things myself

Update:
Found this github repo, it reverts the layout back, but the video tiles are bigger than they used to be.

Some people are just helpless. I hope they'll change the layout so the actual video is 4 pages below the recommended ones, and the comment section is in a popup window. Enjoy.

Oh hey, the new layout completely messes up the videos with music which are often just the album cover. The player controls are cut off and messed up. Nice job Google.

This is an IOI move. I figure they can cram at least 80% videos in your face before inducing seizures... lol They want people to comment less going into "this year" so they don't interact as much. AND they want you to just mindlessly click on another video. They want you to consume. Not have discussions. Discussions lead to thinking. Thinking is not profitable.

omg it's back to normal

Hi,
Show your distaste and stopping going there hehe

Guys, you can change back using
uBlock Origin extension -> My Filters -> paste this line into it:

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.kevlar_watch_grid, false)

-> Apply changes -> reload the youtube page -> done

and they keep removing comments too... it's so dumb.. youtube is becoming just like TV when we go there to get away from TV BS!! Anyone that wants to run another video site to compete with youtube: DO NOT HIRE ANYONE FROM HOLLYWOOD they will do the worst things like youtube is doing to make it more tv like...

You're going to want to install ublock origin on whatever browser you're using, usually found in the extension store. Once installed click the extension badge that should of appeared in your task bar. It'll drop down a menu with a big power button and at the bottom right you'll see some gears. This opens it's settings and from there you want to go a couple tabs over to the "my filters" list and select "enable my custom filters" if it isn't already. It'll have a place for you to input strings of code that either enable or prevent things from showing up, or modify certain webpages to your preference. You'll then want to copy and paste this line of code youtube.com##+js(set yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.kevlar_watch_grid,false) and click apply changes. It's not perfect but it's a lot better then whatever the heck YouTube is trying rn.

This *almost* worked. It but things back in the right place. But the right hand column doesn't scroll independently and still has overly large "thumbnails" so I still can't scroll related videos without scrolling away from the one I am watching. Anybody have any better luck with this approach or a modification of it? Or a different approach?

Thanks, it partially mostly worked. If you get a better filter, please let us know. At least YT doesn't mess up our PlayLists anymore using this filter.

YT has an authoritarian-type mentality. They delete comments they don't like, don't let viewers see negative vote counts, etc...
