Zowie's recently released AM mouse gets put to the test. The mouse features a newly designed Avago sensor equipped with a custom lens made specifically for Zowie which brings down the lift-off-distance significantly. We take it for a spin and see how well the setup works in the real world.

The pricing is far too steep for the functions offered IMO. At Steelseries Sensei can be hard at £49 with all the extra goodies. Sensor on it isn't bad, and the all round life adjustment is the best I have tried. Lift off distance was less than a CD.

Coming from a Deathadder V1 myself, the Sensei was a step up. But I found myself using lower dpi than I did on the Deathadder, maybe due to the improved lift off that I always wanted to avoid on my Deathadder.

nice review :)

But what do you mean with "DPI accuracy and consistency"?
you mean it has less/no acceleration?

Did you test the MPCS and IPS on this mouse?
im really curious how well this custom lense does...

i dont understand why the DPI switch is at the bottom... especially in FPS you want to quickly switch DPI to aim and then reset it to walk around... at least thats how i use the DPI switch buttons...

you like their mousecord more than braided cables?

BTW, where did you get that IE 1.1??? :D

did you try lower USB polling speeds?
the 3090 runs best at 250hz if i remember correctly... at least on our spawn mouse it does...

i dont understand this driverless hype...
is there any gaming mouse that doesnt work without a driver? 0_o
im not aware of one...
driverless makes it sound good, when in fact it means there is no driver, no way to customize the mouse... so hows that good? most people dont care about this, but how is the lack of a feature a feature? ^^

BTW, you didnt mention that the AM is available without rubber coating as well.
they still have shiny glossy versions for people who prefer it cause of durability concers

i like the shape of the AM, but for me 2300DPI isnt enough...

It has no prediction/angle snapping, acceleration.

Perfect control at the top speed I can reach on a big hard mat.

You like their mousecord more than braided cables?
It is more managable due to being less stiff, and the friction against the pad is neglectable.

BTW, where did you get that IE 1.1?
TechData still has a stock of IE 1.1s.

I tried it at 250 as well did not really feel a difference, might be something there worth testing. My preferred sensitivity is low to medium.

I think the driverless is just important for adjusting the Hz and DPI setting on the mouse. Would have killed for a mouse that was 1000 Hz default when I was doing BF2 competitively, but as listed it is both a pro and a con.

Adding a mention of the glossy option.

i like the shape of the AM, but for me 2300DPI isnt enough.
What sensitivity are you running? cm per 180 degree turns?

I hope that covers the questions!

Cheers,
Fred

Never heard zowie until now, is the quality similar to more popular brands?

The build quality is quite good with this one, very simple and clean.
You do wanna use something like the Steelseries QCK with it though.
In terms of the sensor - it can't get any better. LOD is also very low

The build quality is similar to Logitech and higher end MS mice. The scroll wheel is a bit odd, but almost all mice has its quirks.
