The Teamgroup Vulcan G is a solid-state drive in the 2.5" form factor, launched on August 11th, 2020. It is available in capacities ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. This page reports specifications for the 1 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Teamgroup Vulcan G interfaces using a SATA 6 Gbps connection. The SSD controller is the SM2258XT from Silicon Motion, a DRAM cache is not available. Teamgroup has installed 64-layer TLC NAND flash on the Vulcan G, the flash chips are made by Toshiba. Please note that this SSD is sold in multiple variants with different NAND flash or controller, which could affect performance, the "Notes" section at the end of this page has more info. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are absorbed more quickly. The cache is sized at 340 GB, once it is full, writes complete at 80 MB/s. The Vulcan G is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 560 MB/s write; random IO reaches 70K IOPS for read and 60K for writes.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 80 USD. The warranty length is set to three years, which is above average, but shorter than the five years offered by many other vendors. Teamgroup guarantees an endurance rating of 800 TBW, a good value.
