For those waiting for the $200 FXI Cottoncandy Android-driven PC on stick with no concrete availability in sight, its competitor already took shape. Discovered on trading and B2B portal AliExpress (from Alibaba), the MK802 is an Android 4.0 PC on a stick, which is priced at US $74 a pop ($70 a piece in >5 quantities). Measuring 88 x 35 x 12 mm, and weighing less than 200 g, the device is powered by a 1.50 GHz AllWinner single-core ARM SoC.

Compared to the Cottoncandy, there are a few things you'd have to do without. To begin with, the MK802 doesn't have an HDMI standard connector sticking out, which lets you plug it directly to TVs, instead it has a mini-HDMI port, so you'd need an HDMI cable. The device packs 4 GB of storage, which can be expanded by a microSD. Connectivity includes one full-size USB 2.0 ports, a mini-USB, with USB host support; and 802.11 b/g WLAN, which makes it an ideal internet-TV device.

Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, the core R&D incubator for Samsung Electronics, has developed a new transistor structure utilizing graphene, touted as the "miracle material." As published online in the journal Science on Thursday, 17th May, this research is regarded to have brought us one step closer to the development of transistors that can overcome the limits of conventional silicon.

Currently, semiconductor devices consist of billions of silicon transistors. To increase the performance of semiconductors (the speed of devices), the options have to been to either reduce the size of individual transistors to shorten the traveling distance of electrons, or to use a material with higher electron mobility which allows for faster electron velocity. For the past 40 years, the industry has been increasing performance by reducing size. However, experts believe we are now nearing the potential limits of scaling down.

Japanese company ELSA, which specializes in Quadro and GeForce graphics cards, finally unveiled its Gladiac GeForce GTX 670 graphics card (model: GD670-2GERX). Pictured below, the ELSA's card sticks to NVIDIA reference design, except for the color of the PCB. It even sticks to reference clock speeds of 915 MHz core, 980 MHz GPU Boost, and 6008 MHz memory (GDDR5 effective). Based on the 28 nm GK104 silicon, the GTX 670 packs 1344 CUDA cores, a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 2 GB of memory, on this card. It is priced at 52,800 JPY.

Intel is ready to top off its Desktop Board Extreme Series 7-series "Panther Point" lineup with the DZ77RE-75K. Its most characteristic feature is Thunderbolt I/O. Along with a handful other high-end socket LGA1155 motherboards featuring the 10 Gb/s interconnect, the DZ77RE-75K will be launched early next week.

To a very large extant, the DZ77RE-75K resembles the DZ77GA-70K, which Intel topped its Desktop Board "Panther Point" lineup with. In fact, the two share the same PCB design. The only distinguishing feature of the DZ77RE-75K is the presence of a mini-DisplayPort+Thunderbolt connector, and a DSL3310 Thunderbolt controller driving it, in tandem with Intel FDI. The DSL3310, unfortunately, is a slim variant in Intel's Thunderbolt controller lineup, and only takes advantage of PCI-Express 2.0 x2, so Thunderbolt might not perform to its fullest.

The HP board of directors has declared a regular cash dividend of 13.2 cents per share on the company’s common stock.

The dividend, the third in HP’s fiscal year 2012, is payable on July 5, 2012, to stockholders of record as of the close of business on June 13, 2012.

HP has approximately 2 billion shares of common stock outstanding.

Researchers have unveiled an “inexact” computer chip that challenges the industry’s 50-year pursuit of accuracy. The design improves power and resource efficiency by allowing for occasional errors. Prototypes unveiled this week at the ACM International Conference on Computing Frontiers in Cagliari, Italy, are at least 15 times more efficient than today’s technology.

The research, which earned best-paper honors at the conference, was conducted by experts from Rice University in Houston, Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Switzerland’s Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) and the University of California, Berkeley.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions, announced today that it has begun producing the industry’s first four gigabit (Gb), low power double-data-rate 2 (LPDDR2) memory using 20 nanometer (nm) class* technology. The mobile DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chip, which went into mass production last month, will help the market to deliver advanced devices that are faster, lighter and provide longer battery life than today’s mobile devices.

“Samsung began expanding the market for 4Gb DRAM last year with the first mass-produced 30nm-class DRAM, and now we are working on capturing most of the advanced memory market with our new 20nm-class 4Gb DRAM,” said Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. “In the second half of this year, we expect to strongly increase the portion of 20nm-class DRAM within our overall DRAM output to make the 4Gb DRAM line-up the mainstream product in DRAM production, and therefore keeping the leadership position in the premium market and strengthening our competitive edge.”

NVIDIA is readying a high-performance mobile GPU for a Computex 2012 unveiling. Called the GeForce GTX 680M, the chip is based on its trusty 28 nm GK104 silicon, but with about half its streaming multiprocessors disabled, resulting in a CUDA core count of around 768. Reference MXM boards of the chip could ship with memory options as high as 4 GB, across a 256-bit wide memory interface. With the right craftsmanship on the part of NVIDIA, the GTX 680M could end up with a power draw of 100W. A Chinese source had the opportunity to picture the reference board qualification sample, and put it through 3DMark 11, in which it was found to be roughly 37% faster than the GF114-based GeForce GTX 670M, scoring 4905 points in Performance preset. The test bed was driven by Intel Core i7-3720QM quad-core mobile processor.

Logitec Japan unveiled the LAN-W300N/RS line of compact wireless internet routers. Measuring just 56 x 42 x 13.5, weighing 23 g (excluding the light AC adapter), the router is ideal for carrying around, when traveling. Its WLAN module supports 802.11 b/g/n with 300 Mbps transfer rates supported in 802.11 n mode. Its wired interfaces include a 10/100 Mbps downstream Ethernet connection, and a WAN uplink. Wireless security standards such as WPA/WPA2-PSK with 64-bit and 128-bit AES encryption, WPA2-PSK with TKIP, and WEP are supported. The router is available in two color choices, black and white. To add choice in the mainstream segment, Super Flower is working on a new 500W modular PSU, with a manufacturer-rated efficiency of 85%. The SF-500K14XP, pictured below, is very similar to the SF-550K14XP, which was unveiled in April. The new model features LLC resonant half-bridge rectifiers, with a conversion efficiency that, according to Super Flower, is comparable to 80 Plus Bronze requirements. The unit has sufficient modular cabling to power a single graphics card gaming PC. Pricing information is awaited.

EVGA is said to have isolated a small batch of GeForce GTX 670 SC (SuperClocked), model# 02G-P3-2672-KR graphics cards, which were not properly screened through Quality Assurance (QA). The company worked with its partners to get these cards re-tested through the QA, which concluded that the GTX 670 SC is a well-designed product. EVGA assured current owners of the part in question, that should they notice issues with their products, they should get in touch with EVGA's Jacob Freeman (jacobf[at]evga[dot]com), who will assist in setting up an RMA. Further, EVGA assured that in such cases, the returned GTX 670 SC will be replaced with a faster GTX 670 FTW Edition.

With its competition checked thanks to good performance by its GK104 silicon, NVIDIA was bold enough to release die-shots of its GK110 silicon, which made its market entry as the Tesla K20 GPU-compute accelerator. This opened flood-gates of speculation surrounding minute details of the new chip, from various sources. We found one of these most plausible, by Beyond3D community member "fellix". The source of the image appears to have charted out component layout of the chip by some pattern recognition and educated guesswork.

It identifies the the 7.1 billion transistor GK110 silicon to have 15 streaming multiprocessors (SMX). A little earlier this week, sources close to NVIDIA confirmed the SMX count to TechPowerUp. NVIDIA revealed that the chip will retain the SMX design of GK104, in which each of these holds 192 CUDA cores. Going by that, GK110 has a total of 2880 cores. Blocks of SMX units surround a centrally-located command processor, along with six setup pipelines, and a portion holding the ROPs and memory controllers. There are a total of six GDDR5 PHYs, which could amount to a 384-bit wide memory interface. The chip talks to the rest of the system over PCI-Express 3.0.

Razer is working on a new ambidextrous gaming mouse called Ouroboros. The mouse was pictured by FCC for its clearance inspection. It reveals a symmetric, edgy design, which is a breakaway from Razer's traditional curvy designs. With large main buttons and a restrained main body, the mouse appears to have been designed for both claw and palm grips. Apart from its main buttons and a scroll wheel, the mouse has six macro buttons that are symmetrically located. The thumb-rests on either sides of the mouse appear to be detachable, making the mouse ideal for claw grip. The mouse is pictured next to its detachable braided USB cable. Dell announced today it is expanding its client virtualization solutions with the introduction of the first virtualized 2U rack workstation enabling up to four concurrent professional graphics users to work from a single workstation from virtually anywhere. The Dell Precision R5500 rack workstation is the first four-GPU (graphics processing unit) configuration to be certified by Citrix with GPU pass-through on Citrix XenServer 6 using Citrix XenDesktop HDX 3D Pro, and brings additional security, IT resource optimization and end user flexibility to high performance workloads. MSI launched its GeForce GT 600 series lineup with as many as four GeForce GT 630, two GeForce GT 620, and three GeForce GT 610 models. Among the GT 630 models are full-height, double-slot ones with 1 GB, 2 GB, and 3 GB SDDR3 memory options; and a low-profile 1 GB variant. The GeForce GT 620 models include a full-height dual-fan; and a low-profile, single-slot variant; both of which are backed by 1 GB of SDDR3 memory. Finishing things off, the GeForce GT 610 contingent includes two active cooled models, with 1 GB and 2 GB memory options, both of which are low-profile and single-slot; and a low-profile, dual-slot, passive cooled model.

Leadtek joined the GeForce GT 600 launch party with three new Winfast series graphics card models, based on the GeForce GT 630, GeForce GT 620, and GeForce GT 610 (pictured in that order, below). The GT 630 card (model: LR2741), dons a full-height PCB, a double-slot cooling solution, 1 GB of SDDR3 memory, and clock speeds of 810/1620/1600 MHz (core/CUDA cores/memory effective).

The GeForce GT 620 based card (model: LR2740), is low-profile capable, its cooling solution consists of an active fan-heatsink. Like the GT 630 model, this card utilizes 1 GB of SDDR3 memory as well. It comes with clock speeds of 700/1400/1333 MHz. Lastly, there's the GT 610-based card (model: LR2739), which packs a much more compact fan-heatsink, 1 GB of SDDR3 memory, and clock speeds of 810/1620/1066 MHz. All three cards provide DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI display outputs.

Peripherals maker PROLiNK unveiled PRO1301WE, a 13.3-inch portable display that's USB-powered. The display draws both power and input from the USB interface, and is probably driven by a DisplayLink USB-VGA controller. The monitor features an 8 mm-thick bezel, and a glossy screen, which make it look like an oversized tablet. The monitor uses LED-backlit illumination, which contributes to its weight of just 654 g. The monitor can be mounted onto notebook PCs, or made to stand alone, in portrait or landscape orientations, on an included stand. Slated for formal launch at PC Show 2012, PROLiNK PRO1301WE could retail for SG $229 (US $180).

Galaxy launched a constellation of GeForce GT 600 series graphics cards, consisting of two models each, based on the GeForce GT 610, GeForce GT 620, and GeForce GT 630. Its GeForce GT 610 lineup consists of two half-height (low-profile) graphics cards, the GF PGT610-LP/2GD3 confines to a single expansion slot apart from its half-height PCB, thanks to an active fan-heatsink. It packs 2 GB of memory. The GF PGT610-LP/1GD3 FANLESS packs 1 GB of memory and a passive cooling solution that steps over the bounds of a single expansion slot. Both cards feature clock speeds of 810/1620/1000 MHz (core/CUDA cores/memory).

The GeForce GT 620 lineup includes the GF PGT620/2GD3 and GF PGT620-LP/1GD3. The former packs 2 GB of memory, clock speeds of 700/1400/1000 MHz, and lacks a half-height PCB; while the latter is low-profile capable thanks to its half-height PCB, packs 1 GB of memory, and clock speeds of 700/1400/667 MHz. The GeForce GT 630 lineup consists of the only cards launched today, which implement GDDR5 memory. The GF PGT630/512D5 packs 512 MB of memory, and clock speeds of 810/1620/3200 MHz; while the GF PGT630/1GD5 packs 1 GB of memory, with a slightly lower memory clock speed of 3.10 GHz. Both these cards feature full-height PCBs, and two-slot cooling solutions.

STEC, Inc., a leading global provider of solid-state drive (SSD) technologies and products, today announced that the company has validated its proprietary CellCare Technology's ability to extend the endurance of 24 nm consumer-grade multi-level cell (cMLC) NAND flash memory to 40,000 program/erase cycles. This represents an increase of greater than 13 times the manufacturer's specified endurance metric of 3,000 program/erase cycles.

This is a significant advancement in one of the company's core technologies, as it provides for the development of a new generation of STEC's enterprise-class SSDs that utilizes low-cost cMLC NAND chips, while still achieving 10 full capacity random writes to the drive each day for five years, and data retention for three months (at 40°C)—all with no degradation in performance. This equates to approximately 7.3 petabytes (PB) of data being written to a 400 GB SSD over the life of the drive.
