(PR) RunCore Launches InVincible SSD with Physical Self-Destruction

RunCore, leading supplier of high-performance solid-state drives, announces the global launch of its InVincible Solid State Disc drive. This SATA SSD solution provides for highest data security through a special button device that allows for total physical destruction with a single click.

The RunCore InVincible SSDs allow you to protect sensitive data from third party access in two ways with a single click. One method is the intelligent elimination of all your data through overwriting the entire disk with meaningless code. This overwrite-deletion method ensures that there is no way to potentially recover previous data stored to the device, effectively setting you SSD back to factory default.

(PR) Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler Launched

Cooling specialist Alpenföhn presents their newest addition to the Matterhorn line of performance coolers. Dubbed the Matterhorn Pure, it focuses on delivering the best possible cooling at the best possible price. Even with its untreated surface, the Matterhorn Pure impresses with the same high quality which Alpenföhn is known for.

Weighing in at a solid 660 grams without a fan, the cooler manages to impress with plenty of heat dissipation area. But Alpenföhn has ensured, that the material used has been employed properly utilizing the same design as the Matterhorn cooler, but leaving out the Nickel plating to allow the cooler to be offered at the best price point possible. The Pure still offers six heatpipes which make direct contact with the heat spreader of the CPU and thus manages to impress with great performance as well.

Point of View – premier NVIDIA graphics partner – and manufacturer of Android tablets, notebooks and other hardware, launches today the factory overclocked POV GeForce GTX 680 EXO.

While the GeForce GTX 680 is already good for massive performance it's never a bad thing to get the max out of your graphics card. The POV GeForce GTX 680 EXO runs over 10% faster on the base clock compared to the standard version. However, it's important to know that the NVIDIA GPU Boost technology will crank up GPU Boost clock according to your needs. When loading up a heavy game, the card will over-overclock itself to an impressive speed of 1176 MHz! See the specs chart below for the further specifications.

(PR) AVADirect Releases AMD HD 7970M For Gaming Notebooks

AVADirect, a leading custom computer integrator, has begun offering the AMD HD 7970 mobile graphics card for sale on their website. AVADirect is one of the first outlets to offer the AMD HD 7970M in Clevo P150EM and P170EM gaming notebook models. AVADirect has already begun taking pre-orders and plans to ship out the notebooks with dedicated AMD HD 7970M graphics cards to expecting customers within 2-3 weeks.

As mobile graphics cards continue to shape the way gamers look at mobile solutions, such as NVIDIA's mobile GTX 670 and 675 graphics cards, AMD closely follows with the HD 7970 mobile graphics card solution. As it appears, from data previously leaked and officially released by AMD, the HD 7970 provides a considerable amount of performance over an NVIDIA GTX 580M SLI setup; this is an unbelievable increase in performance, especially with the 7970M being $120+ more expensive than a single GTX 675M. Cost to performance ratio is exactly where an enthusiast wants, and makes it easy to consider over current mobile NVIDIA solutions. Specifications for the AMD HD 7970M can be seen below.

(PR) STEC CellCare Technology Delivers Big Boost in 24 nm MLC NAND Flash Memory Endurance

STEC, Inc., a leading global provider of solid-state drive (SSD) technologies and products, today announced that the company has validated its proprietary CellCare Technology's ability to extend the endurance of 24 nm consumer-grade multi-level cell (cMLC) NAND flash memory to 40,000 program/erase cycles. This represents an increase of greater than 13 times the manufacturer's specified endurance metric of 3,000 program/erase cycles.

This is a significant advancement in one of the company's core technologies, as it provides for the development of a new generation of STEC's enterprise-class SSDs that utilizes low-cost cMLC NAND chips, while still achieving 10 full capacity random writes to the drive each day for five years, and data retention for three months (at 40°C)-all with no degradation in performance. This equates to approximately 7.3 petabytes (PB) of data being written to a 400 GB SSD over the life of the drive.

(PR) Cooler Master Launches Geminii M4 CPU Cooler

Cooler Master, an industry leading chassis, thermal solution, peripheral, and accessory manufacturer, announces a CPU cooler with huge performance packed into a seemingly miniature package. That new compact CPU cooler is the GeminII M4 – a GeminII series cooler.

Redefining cooling performance for space restricted environments, GeminII M4 is engineered to maximize cooling with its minimal CPU contact gaps and four extremely efficient direct contact heat pipes that provide excellent heat dissipation. Standing at a mere 59mm / 2.3in tall, it is uniquely suited to thrive in the small spaces afforded to CPU coolers in HTPCs and other slim systems. This small size is accomplished by developing a new smaller 120mm fan that is only 15mm thick as opposed to ones that are traditionally 25mm. This newly developed fan not only provides the benefit of a 10mm shorter height, it maintains high airflow - providing up to 58.4CFM when set on high speed.

ASRock Launches Z77 Extreme9 Motherboard

Seeing as how some of the newest socket LGA1155 processors, such as the Core i7-3770K, competes with Sandy Bridge-E HEDT platform, and how today's GPUs are beginning to benefit from PCI-Express 3.0 in x8 and x4 configurations, ASRock decided to go beyond its Z77 Fatal1ty Professional, and launched a new Extreme series model, with a focus on features and connectivity. The Z77 Extreme9 from ASRock crams has every square inch of its standard ATX size PCB with features.

To begin with, the Z77 Extreme9 uses a fairly strong 8+4 phase VRM, which is similar to that of the Z77 Extreme6. The CPU VRM MOSFETs are cooled by a fairly big heatsink, which shares its head with a neighbouring heatsink, which cools a PLX PEX8747 PCI-Express 3.0 bridge chip, which takes in the lone PCI-Express 3.0 x16 link from the processor, and drives four of the board's six PCI-Express 3.0 x16 long slots, enabling 3-way and 4-way SLI/CrossFireX capability. The other slots are electrical PCI-Express 2.0, and wired to the Z77 PCH.

Diablo 3 Launch Overloads Servers

Shacknews is reporting Diablo III is pretty popular. So popular, in fact, that the servers have been overloaded by the flood of clickmaniacs trying to play when it launched at midnight. As Diablo III requires players be online to play, even by themselves, there are a lot of sullen faces around this morning, staring glumly at 'Error 37' messages. Still, some are able to play. There's a little good D3 news in that Blizzard is helping out Australian fans who pre-ordered from GAME, after the failing retailer said it wouldn't honour their orders but would keep their money.

"Due to high concurrency the login servers are currently at full capacity. This may cause delays in the login process, account pages and web services," a Blizzard representative said of Error 37. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while this is being resolved." A message on the login screen notes, "We're also aware of issues affecting character creation and are working to resolve them at this time." Hang in there, then. As for the land down under, after GAME entered administration earlier this week, it told Diablo III pre-orders that they wouldn't receive their game, but nor could they get a refund. Blizzard kindly stepped in to save them, explaining that those with proof of preordering can buy a digital copy through Battle.net then submit their GAME receipt for a refund. You'll need to buy before May 21, and send your receipt in by June 30, though.

HIS is ready with a fanless Radeon HD 7750 graphics card that utilizes the company's iSilence 5 cooling solution, which is used on the recently-launched HD 6670 iSilence 5. The cooler consists of a swanky-looking aluminum fin stack to which heat is conveyed by four 8 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes, which make direct contact with the GPU die. The heat is then passively dissipated by the aluminum fins.

The HIS Radeon HD 7750 iSilence 5 sticks to AMD reference clock speeds. The 28 nm "Cape Verde" GPU, in the HD 7750 configuration, packs 512 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 1 GB of memory. The card relies on the PCI-Express slot entirely for its power. Display outputs include one each of dual-link DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. HIS is expected to unveil the card at Computex, after which, it joins the league of passive Radeon HD 7000 series graphics cards such as PowerColor HD 7750 Go Green and Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate.

Apple Invites Kaspersky to Improve OS X Security

Weeks after security mogul Eugene Kaspersky opined that Apple is "10 years behind Microsoft on security," Kaspersky Lab revealed that it is collaborating with Apple to investigate security concerns (read: vulnerabilities) of its operating systems, and improve its security. Kaspersky Lab CTO Nikolai Grebennikov in an interview with Computing.co.uk was quoted saying "Apple recently invited us to improve its security."

Kaspersky Lab maintains that Apple's software is extremely vulnerable, going as far as to claim that Apple doesn't pay enough attention to security. "Our first investigations show Apple doesn't pay enough attention to security. For example, Oracle closed a vulnerability in Java, which was a target for a major botnet several months ago," said Grebennikov. Apple's decision to handle updates of Java runtime environment for OS X by itself, breaking away from Oracle's update cycle, particularly drew flack from Grebennikov. "Apple blocked Oracle from updating Java on Mac OS, and they perform all the udpates themselves. They only released the patch a few weeks ago – two or three months after the Oracle patch. That's far too long," he said. Kaspersky isn't too optimistic about the infinitely more popular iOS platform, either. "Our experience tells us that in the near future, perhaps in a year or so, we will see the first malware targeting iOS," it commented.

Treyarch says Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Doesn't Need a New Engine to Advance Graphics

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 doesn't need a brand new game engine to improve the graphics over previous games in the series, Treyarch has insisted. Black Ops 2 is built using the latest, most advanced version of the engine that Call of Duty developers have used to build the first-person shooter series since 2005's Call of Duty 2: a heavily modified version of the id Tech 3 engine. Some fans have called on Activision to invest in a brand new graphics engine in order to spruce up Call of Duty's visuals. But Treyarch chief Mark Lamia said continuing to upgrade the current engine was enough to meet the development team's design goals. "People always ask me, 'Is this a new engine?' he told One of Swords. "I liken it to people who live in an older house that has been remodelled. Just because you're remodelling the house and it will look new or it will have a new kitchen, you don't tear out the foundation, or break out some of the framing. You might even go as hardcore as replacing the plumbing, and we will do that sort of thing, as an analogy. It's a gross simplification, but it's one way to say that. There's a lot of good still in that foundation that you wouldn't get rid of, and we don't. We look to advance in the areas that support our game design.

"Engines, each time they get touched, they change. The creators alter them; they don't modify what they don't need to, and then they alter what they need to. You can't make a competitive product if you're not upgrading that engine along the way." He added: "I think the whole thing about a new engine... sometimes that's a great buzzword. Well, I have a new graphics engine - is that a new engine? Where does it start and stop? Elements of the code, you can trace back for a very, very long time... but whole parts of the code are entirely new. Two areas we did focus on for this game were the graphics and the lighting - a pretty significant amount of work is going into that."When Activision announced Black Ops 2 earlier this month it promised a "visual overhaul", with graphical upgrades a mix of "tech and technique". In a demo to press played on an Xbox 360 build of the game, an unpopulated level set on Socotra Island in Yemen showed HDR lighting, bounce lighting, self-shadowing and a new texture technique called reveal mapping - all running at 60 frames per second.

Xilence, global acting manufacturer of PC cooling solutions and power supply units, announced today that the new power supply units of its XQ series are now available in retail. The gold-certified 750 Watt and the platinum-certified 850 Watt model will be immediately available. A 1000 Watt platinum version is expected to come on the market at the beginning of June.

The new XQ power supply unit range is an entirely new development. These silent running units break with the usual compact block shape, featuring a sloping side with two built-in 60 mm fans. This is the visible part of the new Direct Airflow concept, which ensures noise-free work at maximum performance. Inside, the cooling unit divides the power supply into two cooling zones monitored by temperature sensors. If the temperature exceeds a certain level in one of the zones, the fan of this zone will start to rotate slowly.

Inno3D launched a GeForce GTX 670-based iChill HerculeZ graphics card. The card was listed on Chinese stores for 3,199 RMB (US $506), and combines the iChill HerculeZ modular cooling solution featured on a recently-launched GeForce GTX 680 graphics card by the company. The HerculeZ cooler allows end-users to easily remove the cooler shroud, the three fans, and modify the cooler to suit their needs (by tweaking the number and positions of fans).

Beneath the cooler is an NVIDIA reference-design GeForce GTX 680 PCB seating the GTX 670 ASIC. Variations to it include 5+2 phase VRM (instead of 4+2), the PCB color, and position of the second 6-pin PCIe power connector (no piggy-backed 6-pin connectors, instead they're beside each other). Out of the box, the GTX 670 iChill HerculeZ comes with clock speeds of 1020 MHz core, 1098 MHz GPU Boost, and 6008 MHz memory effective, against NVIDIA reference speeds of 915/980/6000 MHz. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort.

GeForce GTX 670 Doesn't Support 4-way SLI, Possible with Future Driver Update

At the ceremonial pre-launch press briefing (EMEA), we specifically asked NVIDIA if 4-way SLI was a feature supported with GeForce GTX 670. At the time, it seemed like a silly question to ask, since GTX 670 has the same GPU as GTX 680, which supports 4-way SLI, and its reference board is pictured with two SLI bridge connectors. NVIDIA representative's response was in the affirmative (that it does support 4-way SLI). However, post launch, some sites that had four GTX 670 samples to play with, tried getting 4-way SLI numbers for science, to their failure.

Apparently NVIDIA wrote to some tech publications, such as PC Perspective at the last moment before GeForce GTX 670 launch (we didn't receive such a communication), telling them that the GPU does not support 4-way SLI. The email read "As I'm sure you can imagine, we have to QA every feature that we claim support for and this takes a tremendous amount of time/resources. For the GTX 680 and GTX 690, we do support Quad SLI and take the time to QA it, as it makes sense for the extreme OC'ers and ultra-enthusiasts who are shooting to break world records."

Data is important to backup every so often, as many times there are accidents that occur with your hard drive. Hard drive failure in any case is detrimental to any small business or end user that has records stored in only one place. Once that data is gone, it is very difficult to recover the information and is very expensive to pay data recovery specialists. There also may be times where you need to transport a large amount of data from one hard drive to another.

With a plethora of backup software available, it makes it easy to backup any critical data needed. However, there isn't a quick and easy way to make this process easier on the hardware end. The MB971SP-B DuoSwap hot swap drive caddy for 2.5" & 3.5" is the perfect tool to setup your hard drives and maintaining them.

TIM is Behind Ivy Bridge Temperatures After All

It's proven: the thermal interface material (TIM) used by Intel, inside the integrated heatspreader (IHS) of its Core "Ivy Bridge" processors are behind its higher than expected load temperatures. This assertion was first made in late-April by an Overclockers.com report, and was recently put to test by Japanese tech portal PC Watch, in which an investigator carefully removed the IHS of a Core i7-3770K processor, removed the included TIM and binding grease, and replaced them with a pair of aftermarket performance TIMs, such as OCZ Freeze and Coolaboratory Liquid Pro.

PC Watch findings show that swapping the TIM, if done right, can shave stock clock (3.5 GHz, Auto voltage) temperatures by as much as 18% (lowest temperatures by the Coolaboratory TIM), and 4.00 GHz @ 1.2V temperatures by as much as 23% (again, lowest temperatures on the Coolaboratory TIM). The change in TIM was also change the overclockability of the chip, which was then able to sustain higher core voltages to facilitate higher core clock speeds. The report concluded that Intel's decision to use thermal paste inside the IHS of its Ivy Bridge chips, instead of fluxless solder, poses a very real impact on temperatures and overclockability.

Scythe Intros Easy HDD Rack Enclosure

Scythe Japan introduced a new accessory that makes hot-plugging 3.5-inch HDDs possible for most users, taking advantage of AHCI hot-plugging feature. The SCEMR-1000 from Scythe occupies one 5.25-inch drive bay in your chassis, and provides a 3.5-inch SATA HDD caddie. Key mounting portions of the enclosure are made of steel, other parts made of ABS. The interface portion of the enclosure is "dumb", in that it merely conveys the SATA interface of the drive inserted to your SATA host controller and PSU. Slated for mid-May, the SCEMR-1000 will be sold by Scythe for 1,480 JPY (US $18.5).

GIGABYTE Launches GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X Graphics Card

GIGABYTE's first and only GeForce GTX 670 graphics card is the GV-N670OC-2GD, a non-reference design graphics card that implements the company's popular WindForce 3X cooling solution, coupled with its UltraDurable VGA+ PCB. While the PCB layout appears to be identical to that of NVIDIA reference design GeForce GTX 680, it is backed by GIGABYTE exclusives such as 2 oz copper PCB layers, electrical ripple control, tier 1 GDDR5 memory chips, ferrite core chokes, low RDS (on) MOSFETs, and Japanese solid-state capacitors.

Out of the box, the GV-N670OC-2GD features clock speeds of 980 MHz core, 1058 MHz GPU Boost, and 6.00 GHz effective GDDR5 memory. It loads 2 GB of memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface, with 192 GB/s bandwidth. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. The card is capable of 4-way SLI. The cooling solution consists of two aluminum fin stacks, to which heat is transported by three copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU, and ventilated by three 90 mm fans. GIGABYTE is asking US $415 for the GeForce GTX 670 WindForce 3X OC 2 GB.

NVIDIA Launches the GeForce GTX 670 Performance Graphics Card

NVIDIA today launched a key performance-segment graphics card SKU, the GeForce GTX 670. This is NVIDIA's third SKU based on its 28 nm GeForce Kepler 104 silicon, after GTX 680 and dual-GPU GTX 690. It is carved out of the GK104 silicon by disabling one streaming multiprocessor (SMX), resulting in a CUDA core count of 1344, and TMU count of 112 (vs. 1536 and 128 on the GTX 680, respectively). NVIDIA also toned down core clock speeds a tiny bit, with base core clock of 915 MHz, GPU Boost core clock of 980 MHz.

The GeForce GTX 670 retains the memory and raster operations subsystems of the GTX 680, it is armed with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface. The memory is clocked at 6.00 GHz, resulting in memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s, just as on GTX 680. It also packs 32 ROPs. The GeForce GTX 670 draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, its TDP is rated at 170W. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. The card retains 4-way SLI support, and support for 3D Vision Surround using a single card. NVIDIA suggests its MSRP to be US $399, but that could vary between partners and regions.
Galaxy Launches a Pair of GeForce GTX 670 Graphics Cards

Galaxy launched a pair of GeForce GTX 670 graphics card models, one of which is a clever adaptation of the GeForce GTX 680 board. The first of its two cards, is a base model that resembles NVIDIA's reference design with variations, such as a blue colored PCB and wider vents on the rear panel bracket (model: 67NPH6DV5ZJX). This card sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 915/980/6008 MHz (core/core boost/memory effective). This card likely goes for US $399.

Galaxy's second card is essentially a GeForce GTX 680 board (PCB + cooler), with GeForce GTX 670 ASIC (model: 67NPH6DV5ZVX). The beefier board is then taken advantage of, to facilitate out of the box overclocked speeds of 1006/1058/6008 MHz (the same exact core clock speeds as the GTX 680). If not for the lower CUDA core count of 1344, you're getting a GTX 680. It's likely that Galaxy will charge about 10% premium for this card (over $399), if not more.

ASUS kicked off the launch of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 with a DirectCu II TOP model. Pictured below, ASUS' card utilizes its in-house design DirectCu II double-slot cooling solution, mounted on a custom-design PCB. The cooler utilizes two 90 mm PWM-controlled fans to ventilate an aluminum fin stack, to which heat is transported by nickel-plated copper heat-pipes that make direct contact with the GPU die. According to ASUS, this solution provides 20% better cooling performance than NVIDIA reference design cooler, and is "vastly quieter". The PCB implements ASUS Digi+ VRM, which coupled with its GPUTweak software, provides voltage fine-tuning capabilities to the end user. The TOP variant features core boost clock speeds as high as 1,137 MHz out of the box (vs. 980 MHz reference), 1,110 MHz core base (vs. 915 MHz reference). ASUS also has a standard model of the GTX 670 DirectCu II, which sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 915 MHz (core, base), 980 (core, boost), and 6.00 GHz memory. The ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCu II (standard) is priced at US $399, while the ASUS GeForce GTX 670 DirectCu II TOP goes for $419.

Gainward Unveils a Duo of GeForce GTX 670 Graphics Cards

Gainward joined the GeForce GTX 670 launch party with two custom-design graphics card models. The first of the two is a base model that is a variation of NVIDIA reference design (model: GW GTX670_2GB). While its PCB is similar to NVIDIA's, its cooler (at least the shroud portion), is customized. This card sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 915/980/6008 MHz (core/core boost/memory effective), and will likely be priced at US $399.

Gainward's second card is the GTX 670 Phantom, characterized by its catchy cooling solution that has been implemented on current and previous generation GeForce GTX graphics cards by the company. The cooler is fan-ventilated fin-stack, in which the positions of the fans and the fin-stack are inverted. The fans draw in fresh air through the fin-stack, ventilating it. This card features a slightly shorter variation of the Gainward Phantom cooler, which packs just two fans. It appears to retain NVIDIA reference design PCB. Expect the card to feature a 10% overclock.

ZOTAC Launches GeForce GTX 670 AMP! Edition

ZOTAC launched its GeForce GTX 670 lineup with an AMP! Edition variant. The card is almost identical to the GTX 680 AMP! Edition launched a couple of days ago, except of course it has a GTX 670 ASIC. Like Galaxy, ZOTAC took the reference design PCB of GeForce GTX 680, and seated a GTX 670 chip on to it. This allows the chip to take advantage of the slightly stronger VRM at its disposal, and achieve higher clock speeds.

Apart from the PCB, ZOTAC implemented its triple-slot custom-design cooling solution that uses two large PWM-controlled fans to ventilate a thick aluminum fin stack which draws heat from the GPU. The memory and VRM are cooled by additional heatsinks. ZOTAC packed out of the box clock speeds of 1098 MHz core, 1176 MHz GPU Boost frequency, and 1652 MHz (6.60 GHz effective), churning out a staggering 211 GB/s memory bandwidth, the highest ever for 256-bit bus width. ZOTAC is asking US $439.99 for the GeForce GTX 670 AMP!.

Kuroutoshikou Intros New 7-port USB 3.0 Add-on Card, SATA Bracket

Japanese retailer Kuroutoshikou.com listed two new unique USB 3.0 products, the USB3.0F-P7-PCIe and KRHK-SATA3U3. The USB3.0F-P7-PCIe is a 7-port (yes, 7-port) USB 3.0 add-on card. Essentially, it is a low profile PCI-Express 2.0 x1 add-on card that has one FrescoLogic 4-port USB 3.0 host controller, one of its ports is is wired to a VLI VL810 USB 3.0 hub controller, which increases the number of ports to six, while its others vacant port is wired out.

The card has a total of 7 downstream USB 3.0 ports, 5 on the rear panel, and 2 via a standard front-panel header (angled). The card draws auxiliary power from a SATA power connector. It includes a low-profile bracket. While the card many not be able to push 5 GT/s from all the ports simultaneously, it provides a novel solution to connect several USB 3.0 devices at the same time, without needing a messy external desktop hub.
