Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Confirmed, Priced

Microsoft's Windows 7 has managed to capture quite some hype, with successive pre-releases living up to the expectations of many. This time, Microsoft will be offering "family-pack" licenses of Windows 7 Home Premium that lets users install one copy on three PCs in a household for a fraction of the cost of buying three licenses. Microsoft confirmed Windows 7 Family Pack, along with its pricing. It is priced at US $149.99, which amounts to savings of $200 in comparison to buying three Windows 7 Home Premium licenses.

This release however, isn't worldwide. Microsoft announced that it will be available on October 22, the day of the commercial launch of the OS. It will be available in the United States, and select markets. The Windows 7 Family Pack first surfaced as a listing on an online store.

*yawn* this gets a big "so what" and "who cares" from me, honestly, I have server 2008, I dont see a point in buying win7, If you got vista/2008 just grab an updated disk image thats native sp2 and use that, wait for win8 b4 you waste your money on another ms-os.

That or buy a technet subscription ;)

Same goes for your post for me. Windows 7 is a huge improvement over Windows Vista and I would rather use 7 than Vista. Dont get me wrong, I was using Vista since RC2 up until 7's beta 7000. Id rather stick with 7 than Vista. And having Microsoft releasing a family pack of its latest OS is better for everyone who wants to use the OS. Paying $150 for 3 licenses instead of paying for one and running the risk of pirating the others. Smart move on Microsoft's part.

Yes I totally agree with you too:) I don't have a family yet, but I have more then one computer. So I would love to run Win7 on the other ones for only $150 bucks:toast:. My only concern is in the previous article MS said that you would have to be a "Qualified Family Pack User" to buy it:( what does this mean?

but you can use a voucher code like TMSAM08 and get the price down to around $261.00 thats cheaper then buying a retail copy of windows home and office 2007!!!!

For people like me, the family pack is the better deal. Then there are people like Wile E where technet suits them because they have 7 computers. :)

And buying Office Ultimate (which is what Technet gives you) and Win7 family pack for 3 computers is actually more expensive than just buying Technet.

you get access to win7 ultimate,pro,home all with the latist updates/service packs built in, same with office, but you also get older office and windows versions just incase u need them.

technet gives you far more then you seem to understand/know, its really far better value for your $

It's a good idea for those family who have more than one PC. But... 150$ is for an upgrade package only. Upgrade from what! Vista!

Office Student & Home does have a 3 liscence thingy too but it is not upgradable to a newer version.

Will the same rule apply to Win 7 "3 Pack" deal ?

You need a retail version of XP or Vista right? Or does it work on an Evaluation Copy? I never bought Vista I just downloaded an ISO off the net and used the extended evaluation and my OEM disc is lost.

so the OS that is installed by downloading/or getting thru DVD does not expire or needn't need to renewed or something right? I read it there but just wanted to confirm. Seems like Technet is the way to go.

but any time how many machines can be installed with the same key (OS or other softwares)?

yeah, Technet keys dont expire, and can be used more then once, just dont go selling keys its a sure way to get ur acct terminated or worse get ms sending you letters and ur acct terminated :P

nah, my home farm is growing and want to cut down costs.

Other thing is I am more interested in W2K8 sever and SQL Server for learning purposes.

Actually I was looking to buy W2K8 SBS but I think technet is the way to go. I don't want the time limited OS install.

This is a very nice move by Microsoft. Seems like a no brainer to most out there now to just skip the normal home premium entirely and get the "family pack" just incase you want to stick in on another computer.

Little disappointed in it being only available in the USA and select markets - whatever the latter means, but still. It is a good step in the right direction of Microsoft becoming more "friendly" to the average consumer.

Who said i needed ultimate? I barely use half the stuff in office now, i dont need anything other than word and powerpoint. I barely use those as it is.

All i have to do is download the SP and slipstream it. And I already have some of the older ones.
