PhotoFast's solid-state drive (SSD) development has been on a roll in the last year or so. The company has been coming up with new SSD designs on a regular basis. Its latest doing is the G-Monster "Quad-Drive". Simply put, this SSD encloses four PhotoFast CFast (compact-flash derived standard) cards driven by a JMicron RAID controller, which then connects to the host machine over standard SATA II interface, and is seen as a single drive. Internally, the controller lets you configure the cards in RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, and JBOD modes. With the default configuration, the drive boasts of speeds of up to 250 MB/s read, and 170 MB/s write. Its price is yet to be known, as the product is on its way to the markets.

Many Thanks to DanishDevil for sending this in.
I got pretty excited when I saw this until I checked the prices of 32GB CF cards on newegg. At a little more than $70 each that means you're already looking at a $280 investment for a 128GB SSD. The SuperTalent drives with the latest gen. Samsung controller (w/ 128MB cache) are $335 with free shipping from the egg right now. So for this to be competitive it'd have to be around $55, at least with current prices. And the SuperTalent claims 220/200MB Sequential read/write speeds.
Edit: That SuperTalent SSD was their 128GB model for an even comparison in prices.

I just think that the compact flash cards with SATA connections are effing cool. I want a connection right where that useless IDE connector is so I can plug one of these in for an OS drive.
it all comes down to price, if this is worth it or not.
If it aint cheaper than a regular SSD, its got no place on the market - and it wont sell well unless its half the price of SSDs

by: MusselsI'd run around my block naked if that happened.

Also, if you do decide to do that, keep in mind the rules of the internet. "Pics or it didnt happen" (or at least a link to the news article about you being arrested)

Still take Corsairs p256 (fastest writes out write now, average) or Patriot Torx, over this.
