Turtle Beach Announces DX11 7.1 Channel Gaming Headset

Turtle Beach, a leader in premium gaming headsets and audio entertainment accessories, today announced its new Ear Force DX11 7.1 Surround Sound System Bundle, available exclusively at Best Buy stores nationwide. The Ear Force DX11 combines the exceptional audio quality and comfort of Turtle Beach's battle-tested Ear Force X11 gaming headset with the Ear Force DSS Dolby 7.1 surround sound processor. This dynamic duo delivers a rich and immersive surround sound experience with full chat support during Xbox 360 or PC gaming and while enjoying movies, TV and music.

"The DX11 headset bundle represents the ultimate in value and performance for discriminating gamers seeking a Dolby surround sound experience." Explains Michael Arzt, vice president, marketing and business development at Turtle Beach. "Players will gain a competitive edge and greater enjoyment of all their games (and movies) thanks to the well-defined directional cues and immersive power of the DX11."
With the Ear Force DX11, video game and movie fans will be able to hear distinct audio events happening all around them, greatly enhancing the overall. DX11 users playing games and watching movies on their game consoles will actually hear the 7.1 surround sound from certain 5.1 channel audio tracks via additional "hidden" channels called Dolby EX.

Visually compatible with the Ear Force X31 and X41 wireless headsets, the X11 sports a black and white design motif with circum-aural ear cups, a deep-cushioned headband and long, adjustable boom mic. For added comfort, the ear cups have been made larger with deep fabric-mesh cushions that sit comfortably around the ears, allowing for enhanced game play for longer periods of time. An extra-long 16-foot cable makes it easy to move around the room while playing XBOX games.

Other key features and user benefits of the Turtle Beach Ear Force DX11 include:
  • Variable bass boost to enhance the sound of explosions, gunshots and additional deep bass effects to increase the realism of games and movies;
  • Large, acoustically-tuned ear cups with 40mm drivers produce superior audio with deep bass for all types of games, digital music, and entertainment.
  • S/PDIF-to-analog converter that can down-mix multi-channel audio from digital devices to 2-channel analog headphone output. This enables digital sources to be connected to devices such as home theater receivers via standard stereo analog audio connections;
  • Front panel USB pass-thru that allows other USB devices to be connected for power or data, eliminating the need for a power adapter and reducing the number of USB ports needed in a gaming or entertainment setup.
  • Available AC power option from wall outlet via an optional Turtle Beach USB-to-AC power adapter (which can be purchased via TurtleBeach.com)
  • Independent volume controls for game and voice signals to balance XBOX LIVE chat and game sound.
The Ear Force DX11 will be available exclusively through Best Buy and BestBuy.com. Other Turtle Beach premium gaming and audio products are available at Best Buy, GameStop, Amazon.com, Newegg, Meijer, Best Buy Canada, The Future Shop and other fine retailers.

DX11 sound, like... tesselated and multitasked sound.
I wonder if the name is purposedly equal to the API.

For $130 they better as hell take that hideous foam off the microphone... and how about some class? That thing looks like a repainted Rosewill unit.

The foam is there for a reason so my clan mates don't have to hear me breathing or a fan blowing at me.

1st time I'm hearing about this manufacturer...probably doesn't even sell here, or does it without a cheesy name.

Battle-tested? Ha! I'd like to see that...

They're not hidden, they're created using matrix decoding. Oh, now I've taken all the fun and mystic out of it...oh well...:ohwell:

how young are you?

How can you not have heard of them? Theyve been around since the 80's making pretty good quality sound cards.. Maybe if you're 12 you have heard of them..

They never got big in that area. At least not around here.

Are these real 7.1 with 7, 8 or 9 drivers or is it just more fancy HRTF type effects? Perhaps just "Dolby headphone" tech in the little box? In which case if your sound device already does more or less the same thing, you could spend the same money on some higher quality stereo phones and get a better result.

Some clarification would be nice. :)

DX11 is a model name. It has nothing to do with Microsoft DirectX 11.

Maybe if you read what I wrote. And common sense would tell that I'm not 12, or even close...

I agree about turtle beach's use of the cheap foam mic cover, surely they could do better than that. I've owned their X31's for about a year now and their sound has been amazing as well as their durability. I'd say with all the drops, bumps, and occasional tosses mine have survivied, they are battle tested. Since no one that has posted seems to have the DX11, I'll give my view of Turtle Beach and Triton.

I was awed by reviews of Triton's product and their models specs. Once I had the money, I purchased the 720's which had decent sound but the sound stage was horrid. I couldn't tell where players were at like I can with the Turtle Beach X31. So I took the 720's back and got the AX Pro. They were a little better for gaming, really great for listening to movies, but still not what I'd expect for their price. A call to Triton's customer service line led me to talk to a fellow that would remind me of a half baked surfer that informed me I had the radest set up possible with the AX Pro. His solution to my problem of not being able to tell which side people were on was to turn the headset up. The volume was already deafening to me and I didn't have to crank up my Turtle Beach to tell where people were at. I then called Turtle Beach and spoke to a very professional and informative fellow that told me to wait for the DX11 to come out instead of stepping up to a pricier unit of theirs. He spoke highly of their competition and gave alternatives to products they had, unlike Triton's surfer dude that said Turtle Beach was crap. I'm taking the AX Pro back and exchanging it for the DX 11 to hopefully be back with a reputable company and product. Since they are a Best Buy exclusive, you can always take an item back without any issues within 30 days of purchase or 45 days if you're a silver reward zone member. I never thought I'd pay as much as I did for a headset but Turtle Beach products are well worth what you pay.

Been through countless headsets (Sennheiser, Razer, Creative, even a cheap-o Logitech) without the foam and none have had the issue.

Why is it so ugly? :S I'm sure the hardware is nice but I would be expecting a bit of a nicer design for that price....

I exchanged the Triton AX Pro for the Turtle Beach DX11 today. The sound quality isn't as good as the Triton but I more easily tell the location of enemies on fps games. It has pretty good bass, mids, and highs but the bass isn't as thunderous as with the Triton which made it more difficult to distinguish where people were. The hook up was very easy and straight forward. It's comfortable to wear for hours of gaming. Since it's wired, I won't be burning a set of batteries a day like I do with the X31.

My complaints are the location of the game volume which I seem to accidently turn down at inopportune times. I would also like to have a clip to attach the cord to a shirt while playing like the Triton has.

Since I'd gotten a private message asking if I knew a rep for Turtle Beach or if I was a rep for them, I'm not. I've worked hard for the money to buy the things I have and hope to save others money by reporting the good or bad of products I have experience with.
