Corsair Launches Builder Series PSUs For Mainstream System Builders and Upgraders

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced the new Builder Series range of power supplies. The Builder Series CX430, CX500 and CX600 power supplies have been designed to provide continuous, reliable power output, and worry-free compatibility with your home or office PC. They are the ideal choice for PC builders and upgraders who need an affordable, quiet, and energy efficient PSU for mainstream performance, single GPU systems.

The 430W has been confirmed by a member here to be a sleeve bearing, although Newegg advertises it as a ball bearing.

corsair should retain the VX line, and not these CX. the CX400 has a fewer gauge cables compared to VX450. the VX450 and VX550 has proven that those 2 are good value for money.and those CXs are only 2 years warranty? no wonder those are cheap.

I must admit in a way i'm not that happy with corsair bringing out more and more cheaper/affordabe psu's as they seem to be dropping their standards for the cheaper models, i have had the HX620w for a couple years now and have been very happy with it and have been considering an AX850 (or AX1200 if i'm feeling crazy enough to stick 3+ gpu's in the next build :laugh:) to go with my next full upgrade but i would never even consider any of the botom end corsair psu's even if they did meet the wattage i need.

DanishDevilThe 430W on Newegg has been plagued with numerous problems, and has a shit rating to match. Let's hope the higher wattage models aren't filled with the same junk.

CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W ATX1...
Look at those ratings again. They are bitching about warranty length and rebate issues. It a budget psu, not a high end one.

Bottom line is, Corsair discontinued a PSU of higher quality and without these issues and replaced it with this one. I don't want people to think that this unit is of the same quality as the last one.

And warranty length tells you a little something about how long Corsair thinks these will last, doesn't it?

I know it is a low end psu but the fact it has a 2 year warranty compaired to 7 years on the rest of the corsair lines gives me no confidance in the quality and and i agree i think corsair does not expect these to last anywhere near as long as the rest of their psu's.

I'm still interested in seeing some proper (as in where they take it apart and show the components spec its made from, who makes it, test ripple etc) reviews on these if only to see if they are as bad as i expect.

Still, my point stands. It's a budget psu with budget specs and features. It's not a high end psu, but that's what people seem to expect. What the old model did has nothing to do with this model at all. This model needs to be tested on it's own merits. The only valid gripe in the user reviews is the sleeve bearing fan.

People are giving it 1 egg based on not getting a mail in rebate back. That doesn't have a damn thing to do with the quality of the product. I'm not saying this is a good or bad unit. We won't know that until it's tested. I'm saying that the Newegg user reviews are meaningless.

And warranty length does not always coincide with quality level or durability. The Xbox 360 has a 3 year warranty, but the PS3 only has a 1 year. Which is the more reliable console?

Corsair's reputation as a PSU manufacturer has been awesome. ALL of their PSUs have been rock solid. Because of this, everybody is quick to recommend any Corsair PSU. The average person isn't going to scrutinize this PSU nearly as much as they would if Corsair didn't already have the high reputation that it does right now. Since no big site has reviewed this PSU, the Newegg reviews are all we have to go on, and I wanted to put the word out that this series of PSUs might not be as high quality as what people are used to.

The 430W Corsair has EVERYTHING to do with this, because the 430W is what people expect from Corsair's budget line. I have no idea why you're arguing with me when all I am trying to do is warn people that this PSU might not be at the same level that people are used to with Corsair PSUs.

And when a SINGLE company has a 5 or 7 year warranty on most of their products from the same product type, then any drop in the warranty offered could be a sign of loss of reliability. You're comparing two different companies that have different business strategies, therefore the 360 vs PS3 argument is invalid.

I must admit i have just suggested it to a friend as a possible psu to use as they need a very cheap one and with mail in rebate and the code on newegg it is less than $20, to be honest i would hope it beats other $20 psu's :laugh:
