Dell Intros New Ultra-Slim 21.5-inch HD Monitor

Dell rolled out a new ultra-slim 21.5 inch monitor, the S2230MX. It is just 9.9 mm thick at its thinnest point. The monitor is this slim thanks to two things: first, it uses LED-backlit illumination instead of CCFL; and second, it uses an external power brick. The Dell S2230MX uses a TN panel that provides 82% color gamut coverage.

With a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the Dell S2230MX panel offers 2 ms (GTG) response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio with 8 million to 1 DCR, and brightness of 250 cd/m². While display inputs on the panel include DVI and D-Sub, a HDMI-to-DVI adapter is bundled. Backed by a one-year warranty, the Dell S2230MX is priced at US $219.99.

This looks like a good monitor, but I think my next one will be a 30" 2560x1600 dell

that's a pretty nice monitor. the price isn't bad either. a thinner bezel on the sides would be nice for multi monitor gaming.

speaking of gaming... no mention of refresh rate.

I'm not a fan of that res on that size. 1680x1050 maybe, but 1920 is a bit to much imo.

I have to admit I find my self zooming sometimes so I can read something with my 21.5" 1080p. But its great that I can have my xbox hooked up at the same time

Slim looks nice, but it has no practical advantage once it is slimmer than the "foot". I would rather see manufacturers put their investment in raising the pixel density and overall quality of the display than trying to market old technology, old panels, with "it's slim, see" marketing. Yawn. Problem is: not enough discerning buyers out there... most people think multipurpose TFT with "HD" for DVD and their xboxs is all that is needed.

TN panel :banghead:

I prefer VA or IPS ones

Also I don't like external PSUs they are generally less reliable.

What do you gain by having a thin display? An extra inch of space behind it. Which is useless.

Dear Dell (and everyone else),

nobody wants your cheap shitty 16:9 aspect ratio, Cut it out!

I would possibly spend money on new hardware if you weren't stingy penny pinching bastards

trying to pass off sub-par panels as innovative products.

I am posting this from my dell laptop with a 1920x1200 screen that i cannot find a replacement

for because "SHIT MONITORS WITH SUB-PAR ASPECT RATIO"

PROVIDE QUALITY AND I SHALL PURCHASE MORE FROM YOUR COMPANY.

Regards,
