Call Of Duty Elite: Out For Consoles, Maybe For PC, Eventually

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, due for release on 8th November, will feature a new social network called Call of Duty Elite. However, this will only be available to console owners, which is sure to disappoint PC gamers loyal to this gaming series. Call of Duty Elite offers gamers a premium membership for $49.99, offering competitions, training videos and $60 worth of DLC, along with all the usual stats tracking and social features. OneOfSwords interviewed Beachhead Studio's Chacko Sonny, who explained the reason for this:
The issue here is that the PC is an insecure platform. Without a central, trusted resource for stats, a lot of our competition features become unfair. We can't give away prizes when people can easily cheat their stats. Leaderboards are less fun when a lot of the users are there unfairly.
It's not really clear in what way the PC is an insecure platform, so this apparent "insecurity" leading to "unfairness for gamers" may not be the only reason for the delay. The Call of Duty franchise is now console oriented and it seems that extracting money from console owners is somehow easier than PC owners. Therefore, Activision will be bringing Elite to the PC platform when they've worked out the kinks and can properly monetize it. However, it's not all bad news, at least dedicated servers will be supported at launch, unlike the previous MW2, which lead to a significant outcry.

FreedomEclipseHell in the BF3 Beta. there were HUNDREDS of them and they were all signed upto the same platoon
you mean hundreds of people using aimbots, not hundreds of aimbots. very big difference imo. just for clarification.

If aimbot's are a seperate entity to man, then you would be very correct. but without someone behind the keyboard then theres no Aimbot...

BF3 aint some MMOrpg where you can program a farmbot to go out and farm gold for you and leave it running for days and days on end then come back and dump all the loot and earnings into storage.

therefore...

~Aimbot.

There is no difference at all.

what i mean is aimbot is a piece of software. there aren't hundreds of different cracks or pieces of software, but one or a few - there are hundreds of aimbotters, or people using aimbots.
again it was a small clarification. but it makes a big difference imo whether there are hundreds of different cracks or just a few with hundreds of users.

erockerIt's a relief to me that many people think aimbots and other hacks/cheats don't exist for consoles. Please keep believing that. :)
Yeah, and while they are at it, they can believe that M$'s choice to axe any keyboard and mouse support was a good thing.

Been on too many games over XBL that are clearly hacked. Last was Bad Company 1. Game was beyond fun when it launched and whenever I'd play it. But last time I played, had people spawning behind lines before they'd even switch. Gold boxes capped the instant they switched to the next area. Then just insane aims from clear across the maps. Followed by guys sitting on spawn points. If you happened to kill one, he'd spawn right back in on the same point and wait for you.

Really, how is it fun to play games like this? Reminds me of bots in WoW. They'd leave their PCs on while the bot would go and do all their work for them. If you aren't going to play the game, then why buy it? Is your penis that small that you have to inflate your virtual one that much?

This sounds bloody awful. :shadedshu I had this shit happen to me once while playing Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. Frustrated the hell out of me and I never went back to it.

qubitIs it more secure perhaps in the sense that hacks and cracks can't be run on them like they can on a PC? Just guessing here.
360 is infested with aimbots and other cheats. You join special lobbies to activate them.

with the whole social network aspect of Elite, they are basically coping Battlelog. However, we all know battlelog is free and not required for DLC. Thats such a joke, must have the service $50 to be able to get the DLCs! thats $60 for game and then $50 for service and $15 for whatever DLCs!

EDIt: NVm with the ELite service you get the DLC free, howeverthats still way to much monthly. I wouldnt even pay $5 montly for it, let alone $60 for the game.

IMO DLC is just a way to fleece more money.

Here area few guns or maps for $15

Back in the golden days of PC gaming one of the biggest mods counter strike was " free" you could make maps download maps and mods and it cost Nothing !!!!

Now days if you want extra maps you pay....

PC gaming has gone backwards not forwards....

Also online games last 3 months too 12 months if lucky ....

Games have gone up in price plus there is now DLC...
I wish it was back to the golden age buy a game then put heaps of mods on it :-)

The Devs want you to dance to their tune full stop.

They want you to buy their all their DLCs, then they want you to quit playing their old game and go buy the next iteration of the game they just told you to quit.

It would be a sin to give the community sdk tools so they can dev their own mods, maps and weapons. god forbid - our puny little brains wouldnt be able to handle the massive overload of ENJOYMENT and explode into a million peices scattering bits of brain tissue all over the screen.

Why would someone pay $110 for an FPS if they are just going to release another one in a year timed.

Because MW fans have been buying what amounts to $60 map packs for the last 3 releases or so and have shown themselves willing to march along to the Pied Piper's tune, throwing money at it the whole way.

I must be a really good COD fan(except when it comes to paying them the money "they" want).

Loved COD 2, that's when the developers saw the potential of this series.

Enjoyed/Loved Mw1 allot, more then enough as so everybody else did

I Loved COD:WaW also, It was a revamped version of COD2 in there current engine in my opinion. (I mean whats better then getting bolt action kar98 kills out in the distance, 1 bolt chamber rape.)

I Disliked Mw2, maybe I foresaw the horror of replication and lack of "ingenuity" in there new developments(aside from no Dedicated servers).

I Liked(not loved) Black Ops, I was playing(ps3 massive crowds)online and having a blast with Sticks n stone's, there mini game's, and cooked quad kill grenades on villa!

I am Hating MW3 right now, why? The intro video's for MP are absolutely outstandingly similar to everything back to MW1... Run n Gun again. It's like a revamped Combat Arm's, New Weps are the only thing that should draw peoples interest(once again)(sarcasm).

I could care less about the story, because honestly.... There was no real vain or true emotion felt for the COD:story line. It is not the same as Halo, and also Gears of war. People cry'ed and were addicted to the story line of those games.
but...... For a Story line on COD, it was more based on "Wow dude check out the action packed campaign!!!"

Personally the only true Ideal reason I see why people are going to play MW3 is because, its based on Run n Gun, which in my Total opinion is about as addicted and self natural as FACEBOOK... or drinking a cup of coffee. People(even I) have gotten used to it like an addicted arcade game pass time. It is not about the development and breakthrough's at all.

COD has turned into an everyday pass-time because of its popularity, and has seem to hit a part of everybody's brain where the tactics (run n gun) are pretty much as popular as Tetris/ or any alike game. It's a access like water/food/shelter/music/comfort where people necessarily never want that to stop, and its understandable.

They get there sales, because most of all, young adolescents are the most "ambitious" when it comes to this, and they also have the most free-time to use COD like tetris in a similar manner.

That's what I have noticed.
