GameFly Delivers PC Client with 'Unlimited PC Play'

Following in the footsteps of Valve's Steam and EA's Origin, GameFly is now venturing into the world of the online delivery platform. Only GameFlys client brings it with a twist. If you are a subscriber to the GameFly service you will be able to play certain games for as long as you want without actually having to purchase the game.

Gameflys co-founder Sean Spector said "We are thrilled to finally be able to open up the beta so anyone interested in video games can start using the client, and we are hard at work expanding our catalog of PC titles for our users to play for free in the Unlimited PC Play section"

GameFly currently works as the gaming worlds answer to Netflix. Digital content delivery is the next logical step in its evolution. Currently you can download the beta application and give it a try for yourself. At the end of the day Steam may finally have a true competitor on the PC platform. A client with unlimited gameplay for a annual small cost.

Interesting. I wonder what the price differences of technically renting it oppose to buying it... Also would you get online play as long as you wanted?

The difference between Origin and this...Gamefly isn't giving Valve the finger and trying to promote a beta app as a finished game store.

Hope it is a success. Its going to be a slightly different business model. Curious to see how well it does. If it can put some pressure on Steam and the others, then maybe we'll see that rumored trade back deal come out on Steam. Got a few games I wouldn't mind trading back to get maybe a little credit on.

I just hate the fact that now you'll have to run bunch of dedicated clients out of which 3/4 are absolute junk. Only trully properly done is Steam. Origin looks ok, but functionality wise its rubbish. GFWL is also rather rubbish. I don't want 50 platforms so my traybar will be cluttered to the extreme...

Close a few. What I like about this client is it give pirates zero excuse now to download illegal games. However GameFly better keep up with its content.

I have used Direct2Drive(D2D) for 4 years and they dont require a client. I havent had any issues with activation at all. whats interesting to note is that GameFly recently acquired D2D but so far they are keeping the distribution model the same

Well I purchased NFS Run from D2D and because its EA's title I had to install Origin in order to download it. Origin also has to be running in order for me to play the game from D2D.

correct, that holds true for many games for these platforms such as Steam as well as Origin. I dont like it any more than you do. the whole reason I went with D2D was to get away from Steam controlling how I download and access my games

I especially didnt like how BF3 required me to launch the game through my browser. more bs that bloats up FF...

Just wanted to say, the client+plan is ONLY WORTH IT if you own 2 or more consoles along with your PC. From a quick glance on the unlimited pc play, even the 1 game out plan + this is worth the subscription.

Haven't bought any titles with it. So far works same as Steam but without having a "Friends" list.

Oh and a 3mbps net connection sucks LOL.

This is very cool. If the selection of games and the price are both good I don't see why this won't be successful.

Nah man. That's for adding to the gameq for your console rentals.

@rowsol
The only con to use the client you have to be a gamefly subscriber. Like I said not for everyone.

You do with some as DRDNA said. Would you not be forced to use Steam with Skyrim too ?..

I like D2D as with the other games you can run a app like the others it's just not forced on you.

So its only $8 per month for this service? that's actually not too bad! Hopefully their game selection is awesome though

Everyone do your self a favor and go to gamefly's site. You'll find that the games that are "unlimited" are not that appealing. Maybe a handful of them are worth it, there are absolutely no new titles in there at all. :banghead:

yea..

Assassins Creed
Splinter Cell
Drakensaang The Dark Eye

and a few others but other wise the selection is pretty much crap.

Saints Row 2 WOULD be appealing but the PC versions is a buggy shitty mess that runs worse then GTA IV ever did, so its not even worth bothering with.

I believe it will get better, they have to have authorization from the video game makers to do this so some may have said NO!

I believe it will get better over time but right now its kinda worthless man

they still have games for sale directly so its still D2D under it all, and the beta client is interesting if im already getting gamefly extra's like this would be badass, just right now

after looking through the entire library of free games i found maybe 5-6 that are WORTH playing,
