Dell's UltraSharp UP3214Q Ultra HD Monitor Gets Priced

Showcased back in July, Dell's UltraSharp UP3214Q 4K monitor is now finally making its way to market, with Hong Kong apparently being the first country to get it, officially at least. The UP3214Q is a 31.5-inch model that features an IGZO panel with an Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) and 176°/176° viewing angles, 99% AdobeRGB and 100% sRGB color coverage, an 8 ms (GTG) response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and 350 cd/m2 brightness.

Dell's display also packs a media card reader, a 4-port USB 3.0 hub, HDMI, DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort connectors, and a stand enabling tilt, swivel and height adjustment. The UltraSharp UP3214Q comes with a three-year warranty and is priced at HK$41,899 (that's about 5,400 US dollars).

Too much money for me. I could buy a good used car with that. I'm sure plenty of professionals will love it though.

According to Dell's site:
- 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz via DisplayPort 1.2
- 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz via HDMI

I'm just not clear on why this Dell would be better then the ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-Inch 4K Monitor thats been available for some time at roughly ~$3,300 USD.

If I were buying I would rather buy the Asus and save ~$2,100 USD :rockout:

The ASUS panel is 31.5 inch while this Dell seems to be 32 inchs, so this is another panel, maybe it's not tiled like the ASUS.

For that price of Asus,i could doing Eyefinity with three Seiki SE39UY04 :p

Don't forget that color reproduction and the "Dell" name make up most of the extra price over the Korean IPS offerings. For most people here, this likely won't make sense. For those in photography or movie editing, however, I suspect this will be of interest to them.

You'd just about need 6 high end cards to power most games though. :P

ASUS does not have the best colour reproduction and I don't know about AdobeRGB as well.

And why are you comparing prices that are in the US and with this one which is selling in Hong Kong?
People always do that and it's wrong...if I told you the prices in my country and convert them from € to $ you would see the same thing - everything would seem expensive. But you have no idea how high VAT is or the average income of people here.

It's the same Sharp IGZO panel, some monitor manufacturers round up the halves.

What makes this Dell model different to the Asus PQ321Q is the fact this screen supports a wide colour gamut, with a 99% Adobe RGB coverage (>100% sRGB). Adding to its focus as a professional range monitor, it comes factory calibrated with an average dE of <2. The panel offers 10-bit support with a 1.07b colour palette and you can also hardware calibrate the monitors LUT using an X-rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter and Dell's calibration software (like the recent U2413, U2713H and U3014 models). The screen is LED backlit, but presumably using an GB-r-LED backlight system to offer the wide gamut support.

I don't think it's IGZO, or if it is then it has to be a revision because colors weren't that great on the PQ321 and this needs to be way better in color reproduction if it is targeting professionals.

Also ASUS doesn't give more than 15 days pixel warranty as far as I can remember, which imo is a bit of a letdown on a panel with this many pixels, Dell gives a standard 3years which is extendible to 5years.

Having dealt with Dell warranty (and being completely pleased by it) I'd pay the premium over the PQ321 if I was to purchase a monitor like this.

The article here provided an estimate in USD of about $5,400 which invites the comparison. Although the spec sheet Ive seen on the PQ321Q seems incomplete.

And your right, I'm not terribly concerned with VAT, why should I be?

The $5400 I assume was directly converted from HK$ which is ok but not suitable for direct comparison.

Why should you be? Because it won't be the same price at the End?
You won't get a correct price if you compare it directly, like I said if something sells for 500€ in Europe and you convert that directly to $ you still can't use it as an indicator of the price in the US because of so many different factors.

There's a big difference from their cheap, substandard PC's to their excellent monitor range. I dislike them too, but Dell does know how to make a good monitor. Hint: even if the back panel is the same, differing electronics can make a huge difference.

This is the kind of monitor I have been waiting for. Would be even more happy to see this in a 27inch format. BUT THE PRICING IS ALL WRONG. Let's hope other SKUs turn up on the market with more accessible pricing.

Even with a supposed brand and quality inflation in price, prices should've been close to the ASUS one, because you know... stangation is not something that goes along with technology... or the human race as a whole...

Panel is supposed to be IPS i believe not IGZO. Yes I wish it was at a lower price, but yes it will sell to the right people. Sadly I'm not one of those people. U3011 will stay for now :banghead:

Umm...no.

There is no difference between them whatsoever, other than the name tag. They're even using the exact same panel.

Anybody with a brain will buy the cheaper ASUS and calibrate it themselves instead of having the cowboys at Dell do it for you for the moronic price of $2K. For the same reasons we build all our gaming rigs instead of buying them pre-built from Dell/Failienware.
