Gigabyte Rolls Out X99 Gaming 5P Motherboard

Gigabyte rolled out of latest premium socket LGA2011v3 motherboard targeted at high-end gaming PC builds, the X99 Gaming 5P. What sets the board apart from the X99 Gaming 5 (X99 Gaming G1-WiFi minus the WiFi), is its native support for DDR4-3200 XMP profile, a "CPU mode" switch between 2011-pin and 2083-pin socket modes, which enables off-spec electrical pins, and a different brand of chokes for the CPU VRM. The two are practically identical otherwise.

It also looks to be an E-ATX board instead of standard ATX - I'd say that is an important difference between the Gaming 5 and Gaming 5P. The heatsink over the PCH is also larger than the original Gaming 5.

This doesnt seem to be usual hardware revisions that gigabyte does to its models. Its almost a brand new motherboard model. Curious to see how these boards perform in real life.

Whenever I see a number followed by P I always see that as the number of processors a board can handle.(2P = 2 Processors, 4P = 4 Processors). So when I saw this I thought 5 Processors...and was like WTF?!?

All that heat being dumped off the gpu does not sound like a good idea to me plus if you do have some dual card in the 2nd PCIe slot, you're going to have to remove it to access those M2 slots.

At least that's my thinking. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

IMO, it is good placement without having a perpendicular mount like on the Asus X99-Deluxe. If one was to use 2 graphics cards with this, I'd imagine they'd use the first and third slot so that way there is breathing room between the cards and also both cards will be able to access 16 lanes each whereas the second slot is only wired for 8 (I did that when I had the original X99 Gaming 5). Although it would be awkward, the M.2 slot would still be accessible without removing any of the graphics cards. There are a few other boards out there with similar M.2 placement as well.

Dual card on this board would use the 1st and 3rd slots, as those are the x16 slots. The 2nd an 4th slot run at x8.

Sorry, I didn't mean dual GPUs, but a card in the second slot that takes up two slots. Though I guess outside of a GPU there's not much that would do this.

Well this board is a E/XL-ATX so it's not like they're constrained for space.
