Dell now shipping Windows Vista on all it's PC's...except for the ones with G80

It seems that the recent trouble with NVIDIA's G80 driver is taking it's toll on more than just gamers. Dell was one of the first PC makers to promote the complete move to Windows Vista. However, it seems that all the PC's they sell with a G80 onboard, such as the XPS 7x0 series, still ship with Windows XP. This is a smart move on Dell's part, because they realize that their customers are not going to be happy with a beta driver running their brand new and expensive machine. This indicates one of two very bad things about NVIDIA's relationship with Dell. The first is that NVIDIA doesn't keep Dell "in the loop" about it's happenings, and will give Dell a G80 Vista driver when they make it. The second (and much worse) possibility is that NVIDIA keeps Dell "in the loop", and they themselves do not know when they will have a G80 driver for Windows Vista.

The picture below is Dell's high-end PC offerings, pay close attention to the operating system included.

Maybe they assume that if you can afford a G80, you know where to download Vista

This is just a pain in the neck for Nvidia. While Im glad to see DX10 hardware out, not having a driver for MS next OS, which is a major player in all pc manufacturers, isnt smart business. While I myself am a fan of AMD/ATI...I dont like to see companies not provide for their customer base. Hopefully, they will get this worked out. I mean, its not that I beat you hear, its the quality in how we work it all out.

It's odd, ATI is still some time out for it's first DX10 part, but it's had WHQL drivers for vista out for most of the public betas at least....

It's really too bad everything is shipping with vista. XP is a great OS and part of that is it's very mature, vista is new and has more than it's share of problems.... especially when you consider all the budget machines which may struggle with it's new requirements.... the industry shouldn't have jumped on it this early.

NVidia tried way to hard to beat ATI to the market with DX10, and it shows. Their drivers are hurting all around right now, and they are really starting to piss me off.
