OCZ Acquires High-Performance System Builder Hypersonic PC

OCZ Technology is about to announce the acquisition of high-performance gaming PC system builder Hypersonic PC any moment. The acquisition will help OCZ to make its way to premium laptop sales and respectively gain more clients.
OCZ's goal is to deliver the highest performing products to consumers whether that is with premium components or total solutions. We are delighted to welcome Hypersonic PC, a company and brand well known for their commitment to enthusiasts into the OCZ fold.
said Ryan Petersen, OCZ CEO. OCZ and Hypersonic stress the new partnership will almost exclusively focus on high-end notebooks and desktops, a niche previously filled by Dell's Alienware and HP's VoodooPC.

I see this as a huge positive for us all. Niche market, but the prices should come in a bit better for folks who will be buying hypersonic products. Quality PC P&C or P&C OCZ Psus, OCZ memory, cooling products, the works. This is fantastic. OCZ is really making a play now.

I think OCZ has really decent service as well. It would be great to see them expand and keep up a strong tech support service.

I second that.

just because laptop parts are deemed more 'specialist' parts due to technological advances which allow manufacturers to microsize parts for compactability for some 'specialist' setups to not sacrifice power for size. there are many a gaming/power/desktop replacement laptop out there that would totally whoop the average pc head on. but that doesnt make laptop components any cheaper which they really should.

Mobile Processors for example. a 65nm C2D@2Ghz would cost over 200UK/Pound Sterling. when you can get a fully fledged C2D 2.66Ghz for a lot less. so what? they both get mass produced but maybe mobile processors get produced a lot less then ones that would go into a desktop.

Im running a 1.66Ghz Core Duo in my laptop & Id sure like to upgrade to 2Ghz but the costs really outweighs all valid reasons for upgrade.

Id like to upgrade. just not at that price.

just because their specialist parts doesnt mean they should be stupidly expensive. just like any other component. there is a market for them loads of OEM manufacturers buy them so why the high price???

You can build your own laptops in the UK, I know where to get some chassis from. It just doessn't tell you anything about it, no CPU socket info etc.

I know that SCANPC are selling barebone laptops but their selection is pretty depressing. if they possibly had a more broader range then they could have gone head to head with the likes of Evesham, Rock computers, Alienware etc....

there should be different options for different customers. the fact that their all the same asside from the paint work really says alot.....not to mention them all having Nvidia Go7400's

but its still early days for DIY laptops. until parts get a lot cheaper or people start getting a lot richer

i can see only one problem that might arise, prices. you can build a fairly cheap gaming lappy , usually a few hundred less. Desktop pcs, might be exspensive, but nothing compared to the big guys such as Voodoo and Falcon Northwest! I love OCZ, but these company mergers always make me paranoid that the little guy is going to get screwed in the ass, if only a little.
