Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.10 Released

Firefox 2.0.0.10 is now available for download. This version patches three security holes in the world's second most-popular browser. The first bug is a cross-site scripting flaw in the jar: URI scheme, which may allow an attacker to steal private information (a proof of concept has been published demonstrating how the contacts of logged-in Gmail users can be stolen). Firefox 2.0.0.10 also fixes three stability bugs, which could be exploited to corrupt memory and potentially execute arbitrary code. The final issue relates to a race condition when setting the window.location property, which could be used to spoof a HTTP Referer header. The release can be downloaded from the Mozilla Firefox product page. More information about the new version can be found in the Firefox 2.0.0.10 release notes.

Extensions have a lot to do with FF memory usage.

Complete rip-off of Safari, except much slower and a immensely larger memory footprint (doesn't look near as good either). I'm sorry, this may seem biased, but it's nothing more than the truth.

I never found there to be anything special with Safari, it's like any other browser. If you want FF to look better go find some skins, don't have to use the default one. FF runs just like the previous version as far as I can tell. ~85mbs with one add-on.

Safari invented tab browsing, yes...nothing special. Safari also has the fastest browsing speeds on both Windows and Mac.

Actually Opera beats Safari in several tests as far as browsing speed is concerned. I also doubt Safari was the very first to allow tabbed browsing. One of the most fully featured web browsers would have to be Opera.

Safari being faster was proven false.

I don't even use Safari on my Mac. It's no better than IE7, imho. My tweaked Firefox is faster than either (still not faster then Opera tho, but I just can't get used to Opera. lol)

Wasn't Safari that had tabs first -- not by a long shot. Wasn't even Opera (though this is what most people think).

If I'm not mistaken, the first "production" tabs were actually in version 0.9.5 of Mozilla (September 2001 -- Opera 6, with its tabs, didn't come out until December), which in turn got the idea from Netcaptor, a browser started in 1997 from a modded version of IE's Trident core.

And Safari's "fast" speeds are actually a result of the Safari team fudging the way the "onLoad()" handler fires in their JavaScript engine -- they've made it fire ealier, before the page is fully rendered, thus throwing off a lot of the benchmarks they use to prove that Safari is faster. (I know this because, when designing for the web, it's a giant friggin' headache for me.)

K, I think Firefox has major ram problems, right now mine is at 79mb with 13 tabs open.
