With the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, codenamed R700, inching towards an August launch, ChipHell released fresh pictures of the R700, these are product images of the card in the form in which it will be sold, all built to order.
Visually, the R700 can be regarded as a black colored R680 (HD 3870 X2). While early shots of the cooler showed it to have a red colored leaf-blower, these shots show a black one. The appearance can be described as: Black PCB, black see-thru cooler cover, black leaf-blower, black heatspreader over the rear-side of the PCB.

nice lookin' card for ~$500
by: btarunr;871907I can do $499, but will it be worth it?
All yours for $499.
First thing I thought was "OMG That is sexy" Too bad ill never afford one :ohwell:
I wonder if it will be that much better than 4850's in crossfire.
by: DaedalusHelios;871911As long as GeForce GTX 280 is 1 cent more than this, it is more than worth it. AMD says: "The R700 will overwhelm GeForce GTX 280".

Figures. Just because I bought a 9800GTX, ATI finally releases a card in black PCB. :shadedshu
by: btarunr;871899my god it gonna be a hot mother in your case my 4870 is unreal. I cannot imagine how hot this thing is gonna be. My 4870 at the default fan setting scares me I hope that it doesn't melt the PCIe slot it so freaking hot.

Oh now that is nice looking... I'm not normally an ATI guy but I would honestly consider that as a viable replacement for my 8800 Ultra.
by: trt740;871950Actually 4870 is quite cool running. The only reason for high temps is what you said; the low fan speeds. Remember that the fan at like 10~20% runs like at 1000RPM. If you install something like a duo orb onto it, temps will just plummet. However theres no need, just use the fan mod.

Lets hope the partners wont supply us with a bios that makes the fan spin slower than the earth.
Even at 30% fan (stock), my 8800 GT idles at 65~70 C at an ambient temp of 24 C. You can imagine what a RV770 at 20% fan would do.
Looks nice, but didn't some preliminary photos of this card's cooler have a heat pipe? If this is the final design it is going to be one hot card (ex. 3870X2 stock cooler)
by: From_Nowhere;872015I agree. Its going to be a lackluster cooler on a great card. Aftermarket will be essential for anybody that wants to OC. A nice looking cooler, doesn't mean its a very useful cooler.

seriously tho, think on this, get the x2, get a waterblock, get an unlocked bios and ramp up some volts, then overclock that bitch like crazy and watch ur widescreen monitor melt lol..
well.. not really but its gonna be one awesome card. Im half tempted to wait a bit longer to see if ATI releases some of those rumoured higher binned versions :)

There are bigger rumours than that running aroung now.
o.O such as?
yeh i can call it black edition

A nice looking card, nice performance too.Pity we will get reamed up the bottom in the uk on the price.$499 ooh ha ha ha more like £499 in the uk:banghead:
It looks like a very long card. Is it more than 10 inches?
The card? :p
It looks a big one.
It looks a big one.
3870X2 was 11 inches. this will be 11 inches lol.

that thing looks soooo fracking long...
by: Mussels;872161I hear that alot. But once you get it inside, its really not to bad.

How much longer is it than an ATX motherboard?
That metal plate BEHIND the pci express connector will murder my sata ports and my chipset cooler as well :nutkick:
I don't think amd would be stupid enough to include that plate in the retail version.

by: DaedalusHelios;872167That's what she said.. The card looks nice, nothing more then sweetness. But, I just can't wait for it to be shown as benching and so forth. Then with people on here having one to try also.. That's what will seal the deal for me.

I'm pretty sure this WON'T fit in my case...
man that card is larger than a whore's dream
My case being close to a decade Old, can support this card, but i dont need such raw power.
I dont either, but dayum I want to have it. I may forgo the 4870 and wait for these to pop out and grab one. That way, I got a Xfire solution raring to go.
Poor thing, when I get mine the sweet black casing is going to stay on it for exactly 2 seconds.
i dont have a problem to fit 2 off them in to my bady:rockout::rockout:

looks more like a test stack than a case, cases were designed to protect the components from dust, physical damage etc.
@ eidairaman1 : that would appear to be a danger den torture rack.
nice setup overclocker! how do you like the pump mounted directly to the w/b?

I hope the cores are clocked high. 850 each would be nice!
by: eidairaman1;872411no worries I have a compressor to keep it clean

Well last week I was thinking of getting another 3870 to go Xfire. Then I realized its better value for money to get a 4870 and sell on my 3870. then i see this. and its a black PCb and cooler!!! :D
if i can get this for the rumoured price of $500 (probably about £300 in UK) i just might get it.
Cus the X2's use less power than two cards in Xfire right? (like the 3870x2 did)
only thing i'm worried about is that "plate" or something, cus it would mean it wouldnt fit cus of sata ports, SB heatpipe. Unless its optional??? Surely they wouldnt design something that wouldnt actually fit on a lot of peoples mobos??
i would love to have an all black system. ATM mobo is black, case is black, new ram and cpu cooler im looking at are black, then if i can get a black gfx card that is a 4870x2! :D

Cards looks awesome!! But i have a 680i chipset board so i will just get a 9800 GX2 or a GTX 280.
My case should fit it(Cooler Master RC 690) I know it can fit a 8800 GTX so it should fit this to.
by: tofu;872242It's not a metal plate, it's a piece of PCB. It'll be removed on functional cards, it's just there to help the card being held in place in the machines that add the components onto the PCB.

Prettiest ATI card I have seen in years. I get so tired of building my black rigs and having my Red ATI PCB's. I was thinking of upgrading to a 4870 and a Q9450 recently I may just wait a bit longer.
by: INSTG8R;873781Same I was thinking. I was gonna have a nice black PC even a black cooler, then a bright red gfx card, lol! i have to admit the colour is one of the factors making me wait for the 4870x2. aw well as the potential performance, lol!

by: eidairaman1;872411Yeah, but the dust is a hell of a lot easier to clean without a case. As far as physical damage, just use common sense. (And don't let DaMulta anywhere near it. lol) I don't use a case either.
