GT200b Already hit Stores?

A suspicious new model of the flagship GeForce GTX 280 made by Leadtek going by the name 'GeForce GTX 280 Extreme' is put on pre-order on the popular British computer component online store Overclockers UK (OCUK). It can be found here. There are some hints that point toward this being based on a 55nm core:
  • Extremely high parameters such as 738 MHz core, 1666 MHz shader domain and 2520 MHz memory albeit GDDR3, traditionally Leadtek doesn't offer such high manufacturer overclock for even its premium variants.
  • Such insanely high parameters cannot be reached by a manufacturer on reference cooling, for example, even the EVGA e-GeForce GTX 280 HC (liquid-cooled) comes with 670 MHz core, 1458MHz shader domain and 2430 MHz memory.
  • Although traditionally OCUK isn't very discount-friendly, and that this is a premium GTX 280 variant, that still doesn't warrant a whopping £387.74 (US $771.29) price-tag.
The Leadtek website neither has a product entry for this nor is it part of any of their press-releases leading us to believe it's an upcoming product. With such parameters, it only puzzles us if it indeed is the GT200b making for 'UFO sightings' in the markets.

btarunrIf this does manage to dethrone R700, there still is a R700+ in the pipeline. wooops...
You mean the beast that will use the Super RV770 cores, uh, that slipped too :p

BTW, I find it inconceivable that the gt200b will be 50% faster than the gt200

mab1376a failed attempt, the 4870x2 is only going to be $500 and still going to have better performance than that.

... i'm sorry nvidia but my next card is going to be a 4870x2
Dual GPU cards work great in some games like 5% of games, yer sure a beachmark mite say different, take it this way i had a 9800GX2 that people say is around the same performance of my GTX280, the only game the GX2 did do better in was COD4 and a big 5FPS:laugh: all my other games, laged and had problems, crysis run like shit on it on very high 10-18FPS:shadedshu, my 280GTX loves crysis i runs the game on very high 8X aa 25-35FPS,

Me too. But you never know what magical drivers they roll out. There are already articles on GTX 200 driver overwriting 3DMark Vantage files. ...

actully quite likly in situations SLI/CF is not whats its cracked up to be, i can attest to that with my crossfire setup, im getting very annoyed at it right now.

Tearing, poor preformace in some games, better in others ect

MegastyI actually OC'd the hell out of my poor-looking GTX260 (700/1580/2350), but it doesn't match the specs of a GTX280 at all (memory bandwidth & memory itself). I've also OC'd a 4870 to 850/1120. The results were still too similar to tell each other apart. I don't care about power usage one bit, I only care about the results my system can pull out. I can't BS myself, visual results rule over all others. Sure the OCing NV software works flawlessly & you have to give ample cooling to the 4870 to clock it on a similar lvl, but it is possible.
It had a 4870 and overclocked maxed overdrive and I now have a 280 (4870) 317.00 no rebate (280) after rebate 469.99 =152.00 price difference, you tell me was it worth the difference. For some I would say yes for other maybe not. I'm not sure, but I think for 469.99 it's not to bad even compared to a 4870x2. The 280 came out of the shoot working great no driver issuses, no fan problems, no heat trouble, third party fan control and overclocking. This to me seems like a very good buy. I can see how some might not see it that way , but some will. Don't get me wrong the 4870 in dx10 and sm3.0 seems very good at it's price point, but that doesn't mean the 280 is a flop and for that matter a 280b is gonna fly. Image my card at 800 core speed.

4870 at 4.518ghz 790core ddr5 2400
280 cpu at 4.527ghz to be fair the cpu on the 280 bench was running about 10 mghz faster

Idea of what to exspect from a 280b .I don't have vista so I cannot tell you if this is good but this is a single gpu run using water and a 280b will surely go higher according to the bencher this is a stable 24/7 clock.

It really depends on what your needs are. Your 4870 was most likely a dud. But the GTX280 is a more powerful card. I'll probably get one when its about 400-420ish. As for the 4870x2, I won't make any value remarks about it until I get it - its much easier to do so when I see the performance firsthand (or 2ndhand :D )

is that a decent score in vista? I cannot tell you since I don't own it ? and do we know does a 4870x2 bench near this, has anyone run a bench? or for that matter leaked one?

Only if you go by the gpu score which is great - the overall score is slightly skewed by cuda
But at the performance lvl, vantage doesn't tax what that card has to offer, its much easier to tell the difference between card scores with high or extreme presets.

I'm not sure I understand. I can tell you this 280 of mine hauls ass. The truth is I can tell as difference over the 4870 in witcher but for some reason not over my 3870x2.

3dmark06 scores are rubbish. the 280GTX is faster and every1 already know this. Just not fast enough for a market whos consumers are suffering when it comes to the economy. Especially in the U.S.

Sometimes its better not to understand. Fanboyism is one thing, but the 2nd half of that statement needs translating or something

I guess it has to do with what ppl will buy rather than what they can afford, oh WTH, GTX280 FTW :rockout:

Bah  It should be. At those speeds its completely unsubdued :toast:

But really, will this thing even have a chance: techreport.com/articles.x/15105/1

These guys uses the best drivers available for a particular card (set) & the only game where the GTX280 SLI beats the 4870x2 is Crysis :twitch: GD those 8.7 beta drivers make the 4870x2 sing.

i feel sorry for ati and amd because it looks like they are winning then nvidia do a sony, do a sony as in they sell at a loss in order to compete or crush the competition

i think nvidia has been keeping ati alive for a while on purpose because its not allowed to out and out kill by law

i like amd and i want to get an amd card but seriously if nvidia keep bringing out price cuts and revisions it will kill ati and amd in the graphics division
