ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Spotted

The mighty dual GPU ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 monster was spotted today during the QuakeCon 2008 Tournament finals in Dallas. This post comes to bring to your attention that AMD/ATI has finalized the work on the card, and it will hopefully be released sometime next week after the NDA content is over. Enjoy the two pics until then.

Dang that is a long card.
I see a card where are my reviews, lol. : )

I hope this thing lives up the expectations I really want to see Nvidia and ATI fighting neck n' neck again!
(Here that AMD you need to work on that too!)

Tatty_OneWhats that in US? It's difficult to get a decent estimate on how much they will cost in the UK on release, so many different sites giving different estimates, I am guessing around £350 which is about $680
That is Canada, factor in that we get the stuff $50 more then the US prices.I would say for UK around what you said or close to $599 to $600 Us.By the way how many of these thing`s they produce ,I thought they only made the one ATI uses for display,Might be a collectors case like there 25 year thing.

It was a custom build case, I think it started out as a Lian Li but would have to research it.

Lol I posted pics the day before those. I was next to the guy when he was putting it in here are the pics.

Btw card reads as a single card in CC so thats why we can put 4 of these in the fx boards they also had a 9950 clocked at 3.3ghz over their with their new AOD and GX board.

I can't wait for this card. Does anyone know if 2 of these babies will bottleneck my CPU? I'm hoping they won't.

I would guess that two would bottleneck ANY CPU to varying degrees but especially a CPU running at 3.2gig, in fact I would say that a single 4870 at full flow would be bottlenecked slightly on a 3.2gig CPU, bearing in mind of course that the 4 cores dont help you here.

This card will be the "ultimate" current top end card (at least until NVidia decide to release a GTX280x2) but at that price I think I will stick with the GTX280, the 4870x2 is undoubtably faster, in some benches 20%+ faster but in some hardly at all, and in a couple it actually loses, shame, I was naievely hoping it would be a bit cheaper

I'll stick with getting a 9800 GX2 or GTX 260 and buying a Q6600 and leaving it at stock. Should run all the newer games well. But the 4870 X2 is good for benchmarkers.

Yeah, the GX2 can be had in the UK now (if you know where to look) as cheaply as the 260, thing is it is a HUGE card and many cases will struggle to fit it.
