ASUS could make additions to its Republic of Gamers (ROG) Matrix series graphics cards with two new models based on the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT GPUs. These cards are peculiar for their dark colour theme, dual-slot cooler design and dynamic performance adjustment features that adjust clock-speeds, voltages and fan speeds automatically depending on load. For the HD 4850, the cooler design comes as a boon, to meet an overclocked GPU's thermal requirements. The 9800 GT matrix card uses a display output connector arrangement similar to that of the older Matrix 9600 GT, DVI + HDMI + HDTV + optical SPDIF (pass) out. while the Radeon HD 4850 based card uses dual-DVI + HDTV composite connector. I hate these cards because they are so unique and beautiful but they have no power. They are just not (and not aimed at the) highend.
If these are ROG, surely Asus would use the best stuff available to them?
Why no 4870 or 4870X2, and no GT200 gfx card?

Why only the lower mid-range cards, we need some high-rangers to get this treatment. I'm sure ASUS can do those cards justice as well.

I said you can't make non-ref R700 (HD 4870 X2) or GTX 200. You do have overclocked R700 from diamond, but even they use the ref-PCB. None of the cards in that link are either.

NVIDIA: Never. Did you see a non-ref 8800 GTX / Ultra / GTS (G80) ?
ATI: Soon, possibly after R700Pro launch.
You can use a nice cooler on the ref-PCB but it then becomes just cosmetic. You have a good cooler, but that's all you have, sitting on a ref-PCB, nothing much "ROG" about that. NV GTX 200 coolers seem to do their jobs well.
Oh okay, havent been following Nvidia for long. I thought they released all chips eventually.

HD 4850 + Passive cooling means trouble as well. Nice pictures.
by: btarunr;951769Yes, i think so it can have some troubles...but they managed to get the frequencies and voltages really deep down for the 9600GT, maybe with these changes on HD4850, it will be possible to cool it only passive (in 2D).

Btw, the cards were surprisigly lightweight...
Thats very neat. With one of these cards from both worlds maybe Nvidia and ATI's relations might become more positive, a happy ending to any enthusiast.
reminds me of their 9600GT Silent Cards , the heatsink around the fan in the back is a nice change.
