Yes for $595 it gives probably the same access times as the OCZ, and better read/write speeds. What makes the SSDs so cool is the access time in my opinion not so much the read and write times, plus the price difference is colossal $99 as opposite to around $600 when available. I'd buy 4 of these and RAID them. :)

this is a good sign that prices of these things will come down permanently soon! I'll try to hang on until January!

Yes, I read that a few days ago and was stunned at the poor performance of write on some cards. So bad in fact that an old floppy disk is faster than some SSDs (in write). LOL

Yes, that's exactly the "theory" that made me want to use one in a laptop to speed up general operation, esp. a memory constrained laptop, where pagefile on SSD would really boost performance. BUT it DOESNT. Do not use a cheap SSD in any situation that "writes". That's why OCZ is dumping their early version of the SSD... it just doesnt deliver. Only "benchmarks" of pure block reads seem to be good. Any "OS activity" esp. webbrowsing sucks big time on these SSDs. Please read anandtech's thorough review. It is very informative.

>> There is a possibility of firmware failure which is causing this total underperformance... which is why newer SSD have the ability to patch firmware.

oh hell yes... heres the price drop many waited for.

edit: gah i read that link. that write problem makes SSD's nearly useless in their current forms.

The issue he was trying to point out wasn't the faster read/write times, it was the insane latency when writing to these drives.

Wow, what an eye opener. I'm glad now that the OCZ Core was out of stock, so I bought the Velociraptor instead.

My stars went supernova
I want 5 of them in raid 0

64 * 5 = 320 which would be around 300 gigs

No bad, not bad at all

Yea true thing bro.

The ones that Newegg are carrying for $99 after MIR are the rev. 1's made by the JMicron. Terrible performers, which is why OCZ quickly replaced these with the Core rev. 2's that use the Samsung SLC chips.

Bottom line: DONT BUY THESE. IF U NEED SSD, BUY CORE REV.2 :nutkick:

So these would only work as a game drive. Install your games on it (and drink a cup of coffee while waiting) and enjoy fast loading times.

My father was installing XP on one of those netbooks (ASUS Eee PC) that have a 8GB SSD. It took hours and the whole system was like on glue. Now I know what the problem was..

In that same article ,

Read Pages 7, 8 , 9 to know about the problems about this drive which make it useless

AT conclusion about this drive
As I've mentioned before, the random write issues with JMicron JMF602 based MLC SSDs are simply unacceptable and in my opinion they make the drives unusable for use in any desktop or notebook that you actually care about. Next year we may see a JMicron controller that fixes the problem but until then, I'd consider those drives off limits.

Yup, only Intel/Micron SSD's are worth your time and money (when they're released).

RAID is definitely a no go with these drives. if the drive indeed has a whole one second from now and then while writing data to it, it will be kicked out of the raid from the raid controller. so 4 of these drives in a raid renders you to an owner of an all-time degraded raid or a non-functional one... 8)
so even $99 is to much for one of these as a teacup holder...

That was a very good read, thanks for the link.

Regarding the OCZ Core rev 2 drives, do they really use SLC? Anyone have any links? I though the OCZ SLC drives were not called "Core", and in fact have been available well before the OCZ Core drives came out.
