Alienware Introduces New M17 CrossFire X M17 Gaming Laptop

High-end laptop maker Alienware is now offering a new M17 laptop model that is not to be mistaken with the mighty M17x from the same company. Like most of its siblings, the new M17 is highly customizable. Starting at $1399, this 17-incher is the very first CrossFire X-enabled notebook, that can be outfitted with a Core 2 Quad / Extreme CPU, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, two ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs, a WXGA+ (1440x900) or WUXGA panel with Clearview (1920x1200), an optional ATSC HDTV tuner, up to 1TB of HDD space in a RAID 0 array, a dual-layer DVD writer / optional Blu-ray reader, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, gigabit Ethernet and a AlienSense facial recognition sensor or a biometric fingerprint reader. you know i just saw alienware in the title and was so gonna slate them but tbh with that top spec i would have expected it to be quite higher in price thats not a bad price imo, although still way way outta my league :mad:

The base configuration starting at $1399 only comes with a single 3870 mobile. A second adds an additional $250. So, a crossfirex notebook starts at $1649.

I was actually just looking at this. lol...

Lately I've been getting sent out of state for a week at a time on business trips, and a gaming laptop would make more sense at any hotel that trying to lug around my PC. It's expensive, but for me it might be worth it. My alternative would be to build a mATX PC, and still have to drag around a monitor...

My cost would come out around 2500$ after taxes and shipping. I could build a helluva PC for that price, but I wouldn't be able to game on it at least 1 week each month (more often 10-15 days).

This same laptop has been available as an OCZ whitebook for a few months now.

At least I think they're the same. The OCZ is definately an Arima and Alienware has a history with Arima as well. But, of course, the OCZ one is cheaper!

Actually, the Alienware one isn't much more expensive than if you built it yourself.

My friend gave up his Christmas, grad presents, and bday presents to get an M9750 Alienware laptop. I told him dont do it and when he first got it thought his epenis was so big. Now that i put maybe 400 bucks in my PC he mopes when we go to a LAN :roll:

The alienwares are great rigs... the only thing that they dont have down though is proper cooling even on single GPU solutions. Kinda pointless to have all that power if it gets so hot it burns you and switches off after 15mins though ;)

That sounds about right im lucky if i can get 30 minutes unplugged so that beast would be a mile worse in that sense. Great specs pity about a fully kitted at 4 grand pricetag.
